SUSA Katrina tracking poll
by kos
Fri Sep 2nd, 2005 at 11:09:25 PDT

Hot off the presses, today's numbers in this tracking poll have just been crunched.

SurveyUSA. 9/2. 1,200 respondents each day.
Is the federal government doing too much? Not enough? Or just the right amount to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina?

9/2 9/1 8/31
Not enough 68 59 50
Right amount 26 32 40

Thinking just about the President of the United States ... Do you approve or disapprove of President Bush's response to Hurricane Katrina?

9/2 9/1 8/31
Approve 40 46 48
Disapprove 53 44 39
Bush's numbers are tanking. The American people were willing to give Bush the benefit of the doubt on 8/31, but his rank incompetence has quickly whittled that away. These numbers should only continue to sink.

5. Maybe he was waiting for the proper level of floodwater so he could
show off his ability to walk on the surface of it. :grr:

2. Thanks. People finally seeing the Coward for what he is.
"Bush's numbers are tanking. The American people were willing to give Bush the benefit of the doubt on 8/31, but his rank incompetence has quickly whittled that away. These numbers should only continue to sink."

Hence, today's disgusting photo op bullshit.

3. 40% approve
People continue to excuse bad behavior or cling to their party loyalty. It's unbelievable.

4. Recently someone explained this to me
I live in a small town where the collector of conventional wisdom runs the local general store. He was kind enough to explain the bush phenomena to me. He said that the people who still support bush are the kind of people who don't ever take any responsibility either.

That may be the best explanation I've heard. Otherwise, you just have to write that steady 40% off as completely insane.

7. Could also be, with some of them, that it's pure and simple face-saving.
Some people just WILL NOT ADMIT they've done something wrong, or made a bad judgment call. Pride, you know. I know people like that, personally. They'll go down with the ship rather than admit they misjudged its seaworthiness. NEVER admit you made a mistake. It'll only make you look worse - compound the mistake, doncha know?

Either way, it signifies a refusal to grow up, and accept responsibility for your actions. Especially actions this heinous. Because if you approved it, or somehow went along with it, then you're saying you share part of the blame for it. And we can't have that, can we?

8. I've also noticed that they can never imagine themselves destitute.
I know I'm a few month's pay away from disaster, try as I might to get ahead.

The BushBots can't even imagine that.

A co-worker, who didn't know I was behind her, once told a homeless man (he hadn't said a word to her, either) that he should "get a job."

Well, I was her supervisor at the time and I politely explained that I was offended by her remark.

She was incredulous--"Why are you offended? You're not a bum," she replied.

She was already in the outs in our office--that didn't help matters, as my colleagues are all quite progressive.

9. This is what happens when our priests, the TV anchors, start questioning
what is going on, instead of going along with the program.
