I think that David Brooks is about to come over to our side...
Saw him with Jim Lehrer on NPR and he could barely sit still in his seat. He admits that he has supported Bush, but this small "c" conservative has been betrayed and seems to see a revolution coming.

1. not sure I want him
a bit slick, a bit opportunistic and my prediction is that he'll have a "moment of doubt" that majestically becomes rededication to the cause....

He likes to play the "thoughtful" rather than the "ideologue" conservative

8. and what "noble cause" - quoting Cindy here - might that be?
All the repubs are running for cover right now with a mid-term election, and they are running very far away from the toxic waters of NOLA and the Iraq - lack of planning and execution - fiasco, don't imagine that he'll want to latch onto the passing turd, even to save his life.

I think he'll swim for the other shore.

9. He used to like to play a "thoughtful" role and was almost tolerable
but as soon as he got his column at the NYT he became utterly predictable. But, as I said on a different thread, when he said today "when I watched Bush today I understood how Mark Shields feels when he watches him" it took my breath away. He basically said he hated Bush today.

2. what price should we make him pay?
I say if he sends each of us $10.00 he can come over. But we should make him wear his underwear on his head.

4. Or maybe they realize that the 2008 nominee has to run agianst Bush
and agians the Democrats so they're setting up the arguments that allow them to be pro-Republican but anti-Bush.

6. He'll never be progressive, (or on "our" side,
but I've been wondering where the real republicans went. Maybe they were shoved out of their seats by the current crop of "democrats." Personally I think it's time to clean house and get rid of all the Representatives and Senators who are owned by corporate interests. Look what they aren't doing for anyone in need, whether due to catastrophe, health care, loss of work, etc.

7. Brooks has been wrong about everything, at every turn
for the last 5 years. At least.

No thanks.

12. Imagine though, if you are a conservative (not a neocon), so you
dance with them what brung you...until you find out that they have two left feet, and they are a bunch of corrupt inbred evildoers...you might be a little uneasy in your seat, like Brooks was tonight.

There's a lot of mind changing going to have to be happening. He has admitted that he has supported the administration on many issues, and he is having his doubts. Gotta give him credit for still having his mind in gear...can you possibly imagine if the dems had betrayed us so totally as the incompetent neocons have betrayed the true conservatives?

11. They can keep him...
his editor and his wife are the only ones who pay attention to his "insightful ruminations" (and she just pretends)

13. Yeah, Right!
till the next issue.

If this guy didn't turn after watching Bush lie to Americans to get us into a war....then I say, too little, too late!
