What If All Car Owners - Instead of Filling Up ......

for one week - tough it out - find other ways to get around - and donate the money they would have spent for a tank of gas - to the victims of Katrina.

I know it seems unrealistic - but think of all the revenue the oil companies would lose.

The result would be - Supplies would be up and perhaps even the price would go down and the money that would have gone to the oil companies would go to those that need it more.

Walk, bus, train, carpool, organize your days, etc.

2. if i could, i would, but...

my wife has been carpooling for months, so does that count? we live in rural sw missouri, there is no public trans, or buses, or cabs for that matter...my wife works in Ark, so driving a car is a necessity, which i think most people over look that fact, there are just some people who have no other alternative, but we do car pool, so we are doing about as good as we can...we cannot, cannot, make it without spending $ on gas, for a whole week, its un realistic brother, if i could, i would...trust me.

4. Doesn't Need To Be A Week....

just the length of time it takes to blow through a tank of gas. The goal here is to deprive the oil companies the revenues of one tank of gas.

I know that it is unrealistic to think everyone will be able to do this. But if we could get a majority of Americans to do this - think of the effect on oil companies.

3. That would be really hard for a lot of people.

I gave up my car for good after the Iraq war started, and I barely manage, living on the never snowy west coast in cities with nice transit. But its really, really hard. I rented a car this weekened and the 1 hour drive to Seattle (It takes 4 hours on the bus) had me remembering what I had been missing. Getting people to leave their cars, even for a week, will be very hard.

5. It can be done. I used to drive 300 miles a week. This week, 120.

It just takes planning -- and access to public transportation.
