With New Orleans destroyed, they are probably hoping that Louisiana will become a red state like Alabama and Mississippi. They will pick up a senator, couple of reps, a governorship, have a lock on the state for the next presidential election. The poor and black will be dispersed throughout the country, with many in Texas, where they can be redistricted away to oblivion.

Karl Rove has absolute, iron fisted control of the Republican Party. Or I should say, the religious right and neo-cons have control of the Party. Rove is there to make them happy. Hurricane Katrina will have no effect on that.

The fundies are just getting played like violins (and they invite such). Witness all the frauds perpetrated by televangelists and they still buy into such. Rove isn't that important a player. The big ones are all behind the scenes, e.g. Richard Mellon Scaife and others I can't even name because I've only seen them dredged up in obscure webpages on rare occasions.

The R's are tres' vulnerable. If we were smart we'd all get involved and get busy local party building for a big sweep next year.
