Amidst all its destruction and misery, Hurricane Katrina has made one thing abundantly clear: America has problems at home that we need to deal with now.

I propose the following plan, which I call "Fix America First"

Rebuild New Orleans and the Gulf Coast as fast as possible - without special interest greed
Start bringing our troops home from Iraq to deal with the current emergency - and several more hurricanes expected before November
Cap gasoline prices and punish price gougers
Enact tax credits to trade gas guzzling SUVs for hybrid cars
Repeal the Bankruptcy Bill to help families struggling with disasters and soaring gas prices
Adopt the Apollo Alliance plan for energy independence
Stop the Estate Tax repeal because we need the money to Fix America First
Stop Social Security Privatization because we need guaranteed family security against disasters
Create a Truman Commission to stop war profiteering and return stolen billions to taxpayers
Restore tax fairness by closing tax loopholes for large corporations
I'm proposing this now because the Republicans have a very different plan that they will steamroller through Congress starting next week, unless the American people rise up to stop them:
