Will the states wiped out by Katrina vote GOP again?

3. How does death and displacement affect demography of voters?

Possibly the number of urban versus rural deaths and possible permanent displacement (relocation) of citizens will affect the demographics of the states, especially congressional districts.

Maybe this sounds too unemotional, but I think demographic displacement is more likely to have an impact than some sort of ideological shift in voting patterns of affected voters due to the disaster.

13. I lived in "Wild, Wonderfull" for the election, got mailings saying Kerry

wanted to ban the Bible and confiscate guns.....the propoganda level was very high. This hits home though, you don't think people will hold this against the GOP?

Those who voted conservative before are most likely to do so again, if still alive. They're whiter, more suburban and tend to own homes which are insured or make them eligible for support/low cost loans. The poor, however lost only their leases and are not likely to get them back. Wouldn't think this admin is very interested in building low-cost housing. People without computers,addresses or phones find it hard to apply for any kind of support. Without massive help from the public, I suspect our ranks of the homeless will grow by a million or so at least this year.

I think that the 2006 elections would be a great opportunity to pick up seats in the South, but only if the Dems are smart enough to take advantage of the anger and resentment that are brewing now.

We become a viable opposition in those areas again. 15 years ago we held nearly all the seats in the South. We've allowed the Republicans to portray themselves as moral to these people and then they cut their infustructure and public services. Banning Abortion does not fix levees or provide disaster relief it doesn't help these people one way or another. The Democrats have to focus on the fiscal aspect, because the south voted for us for our economic and fiscal policy.

I read many posts and blogs on how this is the turning point in America. But then i go on to other non political message boards to get a feel what "average americans" are thinking.

This episode exposes racism and hatred that has been hidden under the surface for a long time. It exposes official racism and hatred for the poor (of all races) in our government and the general population.

Outside of those areas affected, I expect to see little change. I imagine all too many will say, "The n-ggers deserved it"...
