Regarding Citizen-Hero Gore
When * is impeached and there is a real investigation of the 2000 coup, what will happen to Al Gore?

Will he automatically become president because he was elected?

There is certainly nothing about this possible chain of events in the Constitution!

(this is a hypothetical situation; I know that; I have about 0 hope that * will be impeached)

1. He was elected in 2000 ... Kerry may/may not have won in 04 ...
... and no, if Poopypants is impeached, we get Unca Dick, not a Dem.

12. My then 11 year old was all excited in September, 2001
when NPR reported that a study showed that if the entire state of Fl was recounted, Gore won. It was impossible to give her a good reason why this was true - it's the constitution, didn't pass the can you get a kid to believe it's fair test.

In reality, I wonder if 911 hadn't occurred whether it could have been taken to the Supreme Court. Because there was evidence of cheating - the felon list and suppresion of the black vote - in addition to machine problems - all against the Democrats, just like 2004, it seems wrong that there is no recourse for the injured party. It really shouldn't be the normal succession - because the cause was that the election was bogus which was clearly not what the constitution designed the line of succession for.

Gore should have replaced Bush when it was established he wasn't the winner. The same goes for Kerry, if anything can be proven. I know it's not the constitution, but it's not fair.

2. The repukes are in charge.. he won't be impeached. AWOL could commit
murder live on television and they would find reasons to excuse his behavior..

3. Yes, impeachment is unlikely at this point, but
I wouldn't completely discount a public Mussolini-style stringing-up-by-the-heels.

6. Yet I think that if the people and the media got behind this - something
big could develop!

18. Just because
her name is Totally Committed, doesn't mean she can't see reality when it stares her in the face...the fact as she presented it, is true...they control all arms of the gov't...that IS life in the USA at this time...give the lady something to fight for, something realistic that is, and you will find you have a tiger by the tail...

8. The law gives a very well spelled out order of succession
The Vice President Richard Cheney
Speaker of the House John Dennis Hastert
President pro tempore of the Senate1 Ted Stevens
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice
Secretary of the Treasury John Snow
Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales
Secretary of the Interior Gale A. Norton
Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns
Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez
Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao
Secretary of Health and Human Services Mike Leavitt
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Alphonso Jackson
Secretary of Transportation Norman Yoshio Mineta
Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman
Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings
Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jim Nicholson
Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff

For those playing along at home, only one of those names is a Democrat - - Sec. of Transportation Norman Mineta.

The only way to get Al Gore back into the White House is to re-elect him. You can sign up to volunteer here:

10. Yeah, and the BEST news in there is the Chertof is LAST
But I assume he hasn't given any thought to like, an atom bomb or a biological attack taking out the rest of the names on that list and leaving him in charge, because, you know, that would be unprecidented.

11. No, he's been moved up the list
Unfortunately, the Senate voted to change the line of succession to make Chertoff number 8 on the list--unbelievable but true. It really makes you wonder...

See this link for more info and for the current line of succession:

14. If Bush, Cheney and Hastert all go down...
That means Ted Stevens (President pro tempore of the Senate) becomes President.

15. Unless they all go down....
I read that 21 administration officials might be involved with the Plame leak. I didn't see Stevens on that list but why would they move Chertoff up unless they thought it was possible that it would get to him? The following as detailed info on each of the 21 people:

19. Personally, I'm not putting any stock into any rumors about Plamegate
But to play devil's advocate, even if everybody on this list had to do the perp walk, Hastert's not on this list.

He's second in the line of succession. If Smirk and Cheney were impeached, we'd still be stuck with a President Denny "Rebuilding New Orleans Doesn't Make Any Sense" Hastert.
