Newsweek's Joseph Contreras on MSNBC slamming those who need it
I just saw this live on MSNBC.

I am not a sufficiently good typist to come even close to contemporaneous trasncription, but here's what I think I heard .... powerful stuff ......

He has seen better disaster responses from many thrid world countries than he has in this, the most economically and techonologically advanced country in the world

Mayor Nagin was justified when he screamed at the cameras (early on in the disaster) for all the state and federeal officials to get off their asses, stop the press conferences, and do somthing.

He spoke to the racism he heard all over the area

He said Bush seems incapable of fast response to any disaster. Termed his early 9/11 action as 'flitting across the country'. (Then he graciously - or gratuitously - suggested) that Bush may be better in the middle and long term at disaster response leadership.

He said all of this very matter-of-factly and with absolutely no hyperbole.

I guess we all have our own personal filters, but to me it seemed this guy was disgusted with Bush and saw the local officials as being the ones who did all they could (mistakes notwithstanding).

I hope someone can find either a video link or a transcript of this.

1. That was an excellent interview.
It was good to see someone unafraid to tell the truth.

2. But how is Bush better in middle and long term
If HLS was his long term response to 9/11 and we see several years later that they are performing absolutely MISERABLY???

3. Well, miserably is an improvement from abominably
So that's certainly something.

5. If you heard the interview live, and read between Contreras' lines ....
.... any words that sounded like praise for idiot son were faint and damning.

In short, I think he sees the boy as incompetent in any emergency.

6. no, it wasn't a praise -- just that he does improve somewhat
after the initial disaster of a response because from there the only way to go is up. It was a very substantial, serious, and informative interview. The guy said the US response paled in comparison to what many poor third-world countries do, and he was utterly disgusted with Bush, going back to his initial reaction to 9/11 --- which is still rarely brought up in the MSM.

- EDIT.....oh, OOPS, never mind. It hit me what you meant - you're fine....mea-fuckin-culpa

Your title = 'Newsweek's Joseph Contreras on MSNBC slamming those who need it'

I'm reading that as Mr. Contreras slamming the people of NO who couldn't leave & are in need of our help.

However after reading this from you, I guess we all have our own personal filters, but to me it seemed this guy was disgusted with Bush and saw the local officials as being the ones who did all they could (mistakes notwithstanding),

you are saying, Mr. Contreras was apparently slamming those who were SUPPOSED to provide help.
