Help. Were New Orleans citizens offered rides

to multiple shelters before landfall? A columnist for the local paper stated this as fact this am as part of the Bush effort to blame the victims of the storm for what happened to them. I have not seen any such report, but wanted to see if any of the DU community is aware of such a story before I write a response. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

People all over the city were picked up at bus stops to bus them to the shelters free of charge.
