Will the Democrats get outgunned by Armies of Compassion? Must counter it
Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 01:21 PM by Armstead
Watching Bush's press conference, it seems clear what the right-wing GOP spin machine has in mind.

People will telescope the week of Bush's ineptitude in memory. Bush will get out in front as the leader of the "Armires of Compassion" he keeps referring to. Plus the military as defined by Bush -- Republican Daddies and good sons.

The Armies of Compassion as defined by Bush are the grass-roots right wing (mostly white) Christian Conservatives and those benevolent Corporations. They will show those pointy-headed government bureaucrats how to respond to a crisis.

As a result Bush will come out looking like he really is the leader of the Real America....Meanwhile the liberals -- Blacks, shiftless poor and pointy-headed bureaucrats and politicsl hacks will look like the problem rather than the solution.

In order to counter that, the Democratic Party leaders have to come out and not let him get away with that. They have to stand for the alternative of progressive liberal government and enlightened private involvement, including not allowing the religious response to be associated with the right wing.

Bush hurt himself last week. But he and his backers are still smart at spin. But the Democrats have to get off the dime and hammer an alternative message, so that the truth about this does not get lost in the GOP swamp of lies and image yet again.

1. it's the New World Order Depression and it's just begun......
....there will be no way to spin...hundreds of thousands of homeless in towns...cities and states the homeless are inhabiting at present...the enormity of what's happened down here will be felt far and wide for a long fuckin' time...the gloom and doom of the reality hasn't even gotten started.

There are Democtratic leaders who will push back.

6. They?
You mean the Republicans or the Democrats?

Much as I hyate to think of spin at a time like this, that unfortunately is exactly what the GOP is doing. The Democrats have to be responding.

7. Even I, As A TRUE BLUE Cynic Can't See How They Can Spin
they're way out of this one. Maybe it's false hope, but this is too massive for even RED ROVER! It may work for a while, but as time goes by and more and more gets revealed, some of it just has to stick!

And it's OUR job to see that we keep yapping at their heels!

I have so many names I could call them, but everyone knows them anyway... not going to waste the space!

Keep the POT BOILING!

9. Don't forget 9-11
Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 01:26 PM by Armstead
All of the "Where's Bush?" turmoil and criticiam the first couple of days got forgotten and was replaced by the myth of his "strong leadership" in the aftermath.

It could happen again if the Democrats are asleep at the wheel again. The leaders need to be getting out front of it.

11. We need back up
Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 01:45 PM by Armstead
Most of us here do what we can in daily life to spread the word. But the problem is that the national leadership does not provide a larger framework to support any progressive liberal messsage nationally.

Over time that may change. But right now, the Bush Spin Machine is working overtime, anmd unless they once again want to get overshadowed, those in the Democratic Leadershop who have the megaphones and political power have to be working overtime to put out a contrary message to the GOP Imagemakers.
