Gary Hart Attacks Can't stand the silence
Gary Hart can't stand the silence. He wants Democrats to make some noise about the Bush administration's handling of the war in Iraq and about what he sees as the lies that got the U.S. in the war in the first place.

Hart also wants Democrats to stand up and say they made a mistake when they voted for the war and to beg the American people to forgive them. "What's at stake," says Hart, "is not just the leadership of the Democratic Party and the nation but our nation's honor, our nobility, and our principles."

Hear a conversation with senator Gary Hart about the war in Iraq and the Democrats' silence.

9. Yeah, but the truly unforgivable sin of his action
was he engaged in consensual sex with one adult female.

Had he been having a fling with a twelve year old (either sex), another man, or engaged in multi-partner orgies, the repugs would unnderstand because that would be within their personal frame of reference.

But... MY GOD!! CONSENSUAL SEX WITH AN ADULT HETEROSEXUAL PARTNER!!

!!!UNFORGIVEABLE!!!

7. Wow! I'm only about 10 minutes into the interview & highly recommend
This is WELL worth the listen!

It's about 48 minutes total, Gary Hart advising the Dems to coalesce around an Iraq war policy opposing the administrations stance.

"Stay the course is not a policy, it's rhetoric. The Dems need to speak up about a real policy on how we can get out of Iraq.."

13. How DO the Dems "make a lotta noise" about Iraq;
when most of them voted to fund it, knowing they were being lied to?

15. Admit truth to the fact of that
Hart also wants Democrats to stand up and say they made a mistake when they voted for the war and to beg the American people to forgive them. "What's at stake," says Hart, "is not just the leadership of the Democratic Party and the nation but our nation's honor, our nobility, and our principles."

16. my first impressions of Gary Hart were not positive..
when I first became politically active, the Donna Rice affair was the leading news story. Since that time I have enjoyed reading many of his books, and have been impressed with his thoughtful statements. He is one of few politicians expressing the view that Democrats must embrace their role as the opposition party. We need new leaders like him who are 30 or 40 years younger and willing to support the new role of our party.

Donna Rice is such a thoughtless, hypocritical flake..why did it take me so long to see that? Most Republicans are exactly like her, viewing vengeance as just another moral value and political obedience as an essential characteristic of modern conservatives.

I think Gary Hart will ultimately be remembered not for just being human, but for his warnings to the Democratic party. If our party continues to remain silent, it doesn't deserve to exist. In the words of Dante "the hottest places in hell are reserved for those who in a period of moral crises maintain their neutrality."

20. the only thing in the middle of the road is road kill
this country is so hungry for leadership one half of us have followed a fool because he acts like he is decisive.

"first i voted for the $84 billion before i voted against it"

i heard that and all i could think of was dukakis responding to the question about what he would do if his wife was raped and murderd with banalities. i screamed at the tv and scard my dog that night.

would the democratic party leadership just get up on their hind legs and stand for something?
