Photo of Bush's "help"...a woman and her dogs leave NO by foot

NOTE: This is part of a Macromedia Flash slide show on MSNBC. I had to do a screen capture and drop the photo into my Photobucket account to share it with you, so there is no URL. The slideshow is on this page: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9133972/ (under "Chaotic Recovery").

9. More tears --
The beatitudes should be posted in government buildings -- if people want to bring religion into the government.

2. I wish I could be there.
I'd pick her up, and her cute dogs. They look thirsty, but at least they're among the living.

Damn that Bush.

4. MSNBC had a story yesterday about a ballet teacher...
...she got fed up with watching the TV and seeing that NOTHING was being done, so she mobilized local physicians, ANYONE who could help, and started arranging transportation for them, medical attention...

The TRUE story of Katrina...which MAY OR MAY NOT be told...is that the RESULTS came from "regular Americans"...not Zombie Chertoff, not the substance-abusing Oedipal scumbag Bush...ORDINARY AMERICANS who watched OTHER ordinary Americans suffer and COULD...NOT...TAKE...IT.

5. LOOTER, SEE HER AND HER LOOTED CART.
That cart is NOT food or water, it is the property of RITE AID which she TOOK without paying for. She should be arrested and jailed (If not shot on sight).

Sarcasm over, this is the type of "Looting" people are doing. In addition to food and water they are taking things they need to get out of New Orleans. I hope people realize that when you are disparate any set of "Wheels" will help you get out.

6. How can I give Tracy some money to start over?
How can an individual donate to an individual or family directly? My wife and I helped a friend who was taking matters into his own hands- loading up a car with supplies to take to relatives who had survived. This disaster has shaken my faith in donating to large entities- I know that is probably foolish, but I want to know I'm helping someone start over. Is there an adopt a family program?

8. I just did an Amazon "1-click" donation to the Red Cross...
...and I'm not a rich man, folks.

When I donated to the recent DU fund drive, I literally "gave 'till it hurt."

But I sat there and though "How can I go to bed with a roof over my head and food in my stomach if I have the means to give...painful or NOT...and DON'T?"

So I gave.

For every Tracy that you KNOW about, there are 1000 more that you DON'T know about.

My suggestion is to give to a REPUTABLE agency...like the Red Cross...and let them take care of helping people directly. Rest assured, my friend...you WILL be helping someone "start over."

Just my thoughts.

7. ill try to help
I have a vacation that i just sort of put on the calendar on a whim last december, it starts on october 16th i want to try to get down there. I feel like shit because I KNEW in my mind i could have gotten down there, but figured i would be in the way, then i read that three DUKE students from just a few miles away got in to NO. I should have just gone, im trying to use some connections to go to one of the cities where the citizens of NO are now staying and see if i can help.

11. That's what really angers me about some of the posts on DU...
The "screw the animals, save the PEOPLE" crowd.

I understand that some people are not animal lovers.

I also understand that there are some assholes on DU who enjoy upsetting people who ARE. And they ALWAYS seek out the "animal" threads and drop their little two cents' worth in. My guess is that they're little children who like to sit back and watch the fireworks...in other words, assholes. I hope they never have to suffer like THIS guy suffered.

12. Animal Lovers are the Only True Human Beings
This is a great thread, beautiful. If I had been told I couldn't bring my two dogs into a shelter while this was going on, I would've stayed outside with them in the storm, and suffered whatever they would've suffered.

16. Why Don't They Just Shoot The Dogs?
I love animals, I have been hugging my kitties way more than they like these past few days. But sometimes I wonder why these people who are abandoning their pets don't ask the rescuers to borrow a gun to shoot the animal. Cruel? Perhaps. But better than abandoning them to starve to death.

Maybe they hope an animal organization will come rescue the pets.
Don't see why he is locking them in a room, it will quickly become filled with feces and urine. At least if the dogs had run of the house they would have a cleaner area.

18. They Aren't Abandoning Their Kids To Starve
Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 11:26 PM by iamjoy
what's wrong with me?
Better the animal die quickly then locked up, abandoned, scared and starving to death.

But I guess people are so out of their minds with grief at leaving their beloved pets, or they just keep hoping some miracle will happen and some one will rescue the animals.
