Why is everyone on DU so convinced that " Everyone "is blamimg Bush?
The world is not DU and I am unhappy to say the Bush apologists are back and in force. Every congresscritter from the GOP who slammed Bush has softened his stance and is back to kissing his butt and as for the American people, the poll aren't noticably different . Many who are sorry for NO aren't blaming Bush and the RW spin of blaming the Governor and the Mayor seems to be working. If America didn't rise up against Bush for this I doubt she ever will. I too, hoped that this would be signifigant but watching the media and reading the papers today, I fear not. Those who thought Bushco could not survive were wrong. Inexplicably, they are back on course. And I am devestated. Nothing will be done.

1. I agree with you. If he does not fall now he never will.
Many RW stepped out and now it is like they forgot what they saw on the tube. The investigations are going to come down like the 911 commission. We the people will never know all of the blunders that they made. Sad

2. It just irks me that some are carrying on as though all the country now
agrees with DU. The endless choruses of "Bush is toast! He can never survive this! " are really irritating to me. They cling so to every last shred of hope that they have become delusional. I did see criticism of Der Fuhrer but it is not unfortunately, sticking.

victims, simcere or not, they're contributing (Iran?) to make Bush appear as an asshoe...but he is an asshole...doesn't change our stance against Iraq-Iran or anyone else for that matter, I believe , if you fuck with the USA? you got problems or a stealth bomber up your ass.

But the world hates Bush...I hate Bush!

playing the party line loud and hard on his show this afternoon...all about how its the faith-based and other community organizations charities and not gov't that really helps people.

I have nothing against charities, but my god, thousands have died! It isn't the job of charities to fund the Army Corps of Engineers. Or coordinate multi-state rescue operations.

Sigh...I hope you're wrong, but...sigh.

...although, I did hear quite a number of reporters/commentators call the Administration on the "let's focus on what we're doing now...there will be time later to cast blame" line which Rove apparently crafted. (They (the Admin) no doubt think the American people will forget about it soon...and will we? I hope the reporters keep on them.)

6. Yeah, this isn't a disaster according to Chertoff, but an opportunity
for volunteerism, the president's "pet" project.

9. ...and I suppose if anyone questions that it will be made to seem that
they are questioning the good people who volunteer, right? Is that the plan?

sigh.

8. I agree with you.
I just watch Shepard Smith on Letterman, and while he was ready to blame Nagin for his poor evacuation plan, he was totally unwilling to lay the blame on the Bush administration, and many other media are like that.

They lay the blame on a vague administration (could as well be the state administration or the town administration), and even when they blame FEMA, the connection with Bush and cronyism is rarely made.

10. All those(or most) who blamed Bush earlier, like Smith, are backpeddling.
They took him off the air for a day and I am sure read him the riot act. I notice Geraldo isn't back yet. Maybe he remember he was aliberal and they fired him. He lost it the same time as Shep. But we are returning to business as usual. And not just on FOX. What was obvious to those of us who care, is the reporters do know better.

11. No shortage of Republicans criticizing Bush
Unless they have all recanted, here are several examples of Republicans criticizing the federal response to Katrina.

13. They are not criticizing Bush
With the exception of may be Hagel, they are criticizing the Federal government. Remember how Tenet was blamed for everything that went wrong with Iraq. Same thing is happening here. Brown is criticized and Bush is not held responsible.

15. They are blaming the federal govt. ...
... and who runs the federal government? Bush.

They are not blaming, for example, House Republicans. They are blaming Chertoff (appointed by Bush) and Brown (head of FEMA, who works for Chertoff). They are blaming Bush for a slow response.

I found it refreshing, actually.

But NO responsibility was directed at Bush. Vitter has already recanted. The posts that tell you to lay off Bush and it was the Mayor's fault are more representative of what I am hearing.

17. it will take a campaign of extraordinary effort by the left
to make the negligence showed by bushco to work.

the good news is that it's doable.

but essentially you are correct -- the kool-aid drinkers will not break ranks with bushco -- and we must not count on a flood of disaffected gopers.

18. I very much agree with this post...
not everyone is blaming Bush. Even here, in the town in Mass. where I live, people are not blaming him across the board.

And, I agree with a post upthread that said, if Bush does not fall now, he never will. He is the most insulated and protected President in history.

Karl Rove and Karen Hughes have gone beyond PR for this man. I sincerely believe that what they do for him goes beyond serving, all the way to Psy-Ops. It's that strong, and that coordinated. And the army of automaton Neo-Cons that has been elected to control every arm of government on his behalf marches in lock-step, and speak as one in carefully and expertly crafted and framed talking points.

The question we should be asking in all of this is W H Y ? ? ? What is it about this President that has awakened this sleeping dragon of hate, racism, classism and greed in America? Were these snakes always under the rocks, and we never knew it, or were they created? And, if so, by whom or what? W H Y ? ? ?

W H Y George Bush?

W H Y now?

The answers you get may be scarier than the reality of what is happening right now before our eyes.

19. I agree, sorta...
... no, this will not necessarily "sink" Bush**. It really depends on how you define "sink".

IMHO, Bush** just lost a few more supporters, and gained none. It is just another brick in the wall, and brick by brick Bush** is losing his power.

No, he won't be impeached. No, his polls will never go below the mid 30s no matter what horrible thing he does. Yes, the USELESS Dem senate will let him get away with yet another whitewash "commission". But this has hurt Bush** and his credibility and the credibility of the tenets on which he bases his leadership philosophy. And it has definitely awakened more folks to the message we've been shouting since the Iraq war began - "these morons don't know what they are doing".

24. That's exactly correct, you cannot assess any of this
until we all know the exact amount of human loss. Then and only then will it begin to sink in. Right now they are very careful not make mention of this fact. The number will have an effect, that will be etched into the history of this country and a severe reminder of what this cabal of thugs has done to this proud and great nation.

This man is a jinx and hopefully some will begin to see that wherever he goes and whatever he does, he brings death and that the death will continue until he is gone from office. Unfortunately that does not bode will for us, but as someone said in a previous post to this thread, there will be a tipping point and when that is reached there will be hell to pay for this regime.

Here's a link to his LTTE blasting Bush in his hometown newspaper today. You have to scroll down to see his letter.

23. It's "just politics".
My local paper (Columbus Dispatch) carried several stories about Katrina. None showed Bush in a negative light, in fact, just the opposite. The one column that mentioned negative repercussions claimed that people blame Democrats more for trying to politicize the tragedy. Rove has done it again!!

I'm still predicting Bush back up in the mid 50% approval range in the next week or so.

25. Let the spin begin
You can hear it already,

The charge: FEMA was slow to react.
The spin: Bush declared an emergency 2 days before the storm hit. Bush had to call the NO Mayor to demand a mandatory evacuation.

The charge: FEMA didn’t plan for rioting and looting.
The spin: If we would have we would have been called racists.

The charge: The military should have been in place sooner.
The spin: from “Gen. Honore” We moved our assets away from the storm so they wouldn’t be damaged and we would be able to move in after the storm.

The charge: Bush cut the funding for repairing the Levee system.
The spin: The levee commission was already under investigation for corruption. (They will dig up poor Moon Landriue and try to destroy Mary in the process.)

The charge: Why didn’t FEMA have a plan to evacuate the people from NO.
The spin: The Mayor left the buses in the parking lot to get flooded (see widely published photo)

How about Sean Penn trying to help and the spin will be His boat started sinking and the motor wouldn’t start. (see the tape clip.) All they can do is make fun.

I have been hearing and seeing this stuff already, and Limbaugh hasn’t even been on yet.

Let the spin begin and they will try to lay the whole thing at the feet of those corrupt Democrats. I’m afraid it’s going to work again.
