Today on WTOP Radio: Gas to drop to $2.60 very soon
WTOP is the local DC all newz station. (http://www.wtopnews.com/)

As I was out and about late this afternoon, I heard a report on the radio that the pipelines from Louisiana were back in operation. The net effect, according to the 'oil analyst' doing the pontificating, was that gas prices would be 'down' to the $2.60 range in a very short while.

The 'analyst' and the professional yakker then tossed a few jokes back and forth about what a great thing this will be.

BULLSHIT ... sez I.

The oil companies have done this countless times and we fall it every fucking time they do it. They target a price the want to attain, go above that price to where it really hurts, and then allow everyone to be be 'relieved' when the price drops back .... but always way higher than before they fucked with the price in the first place.

The first time they did this was when Carter was president. They went to well over 75 cents and then we were back to 49.9 and happy to pay that. Before they fucked with it all, gas was 29.9 ... and a pack of Parliaments was 29 cents, too. Coke was 15 cents; a quarter in a machine.

They keep playing the same game and we keep getting dealt in.

3. Hmmm...it's not like
NO, Iraq, Fitzpatrick's soon-to-come findings and sky-high gas prices would create the perfect storm for the Bushies, or anything

8. Yup. It's conditioning.
$2.60/gal will be the new bottom. When it rises to $3.60/gal and drops back to $2.80/gal, it will seem like such a good deal.

Old trick. Obviously, still works well.

5. Gas doubled from about $0.60/gallon in 76 to $1.29 when Carter left office
Its more than doubled from the $1.47/gallon when Bush took office, and he hasn't got half as much of flak than President Carter got.

I think that in the end they want us to be happy to pay $2.00/gallon.

7. Sen Dorgan will introduce a bill tomorrow ...
He says he wants to take windfall profits from oil companies and send them back to consumers.
