UStaxpayers pay Katrina survivors $2,000/Gaza Strip squatters get $200,000
I posted this here several times since it was announced that we were gonna give the Katrina survivors the $2,000. I wasn't sure about the exact amount of the Gaza Strip evacuees payoff that Bush and Condi gave them out of our pockets and ballparked my estimate at $200,000. Check this out! Air America must have caught it cuz they used what I had estimated here but one of the links they provide from Democracy Now says it's between $150,000 to $400,000! Why don't our own citizens get treated better?:

$2000 per Household for Katrina; $200,000 for Gaza Settlers

Illegal settlers removed from the Gaza strip recently were set to receive $200,000 and more per family in compensation from US taxpayers, while evacuees from hurricane Katrina are being given debit cards with a $2000 line of credit.

August 16th,
As Israel's disengagement from Gaza enters Day 2, we go to Gaza City to speak with leading Israeli journalist Amira Hass. A majority of the Jewish settlers have accepted a compensation package - in between $150,000 to $400,000 - from the Israeli government in return for leaving Gaza. Hass reports that the thousands of Palestinians working for the settlers are receiving nothing.

1. Well, my first thought is, the Gaza people are never going back.
And they no longer own that land.

The Katrina evacuees will, I hope, go home. And that $2000 had better be only the beginning of the help they get to rebuild.

But for those who hate Israel, it's certainly a fun comparison about how the Jews get pampered and spoiled while Americans are left to rot. That is the analogy being drawn here, isn't it?

Ah, it's well after midnight and crawling things come out to play.

3. Good analysis.
The amount being given to Israel is not a 'done deal.' The settlers are being given money. Some of the US aid is being used to rebuild in Gaza (or demolish). But, that fact shouldn't interfere with the "hate Israel" crowd.

5. I am not being anti-Israel, in case anyone wonders again

I am making a comparison about the little we do for our own citizens. Shame, shame, shame.

I am prejudice against Sharon and his unethical political ties which include casino-planners on the Gaza Strip. Everything Bush touches has to do with giving his rich cronies a step into major capitalist deals. And the same with this. Through the "squatters" settlers out, cut deals with the PA to build casinos.

8. It happens.
I understand. Personally, I think we should care for our own, too. However, the sum has not been solidified, to my knowledge. After last night, I am just very wary of posts about Israel.

4. you are paying for the pampering, I guess, if that's what you want to do
We need to take care of our own irregardless of nationality preference or religious preference. I WAS AGAINST THE BUSH PEACE PLAN THAT EVICTED THESE PEOPLE. Casinos will be built in those abandoned neighborhoods. I know. If you want to know more about it, email me.
