Feds say let 'em eat tax cuts
Instead of properly accepting responsibility for the slow federal response, he tried to push the blame for the chaos down to state and local-level officials, particularly those who happened to be Democratic.
Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., said she felt like punching the president for his chilly reaction to her constituents' suffering. Other local officials tearfully have accused the president of cruelty and negligence.
He attempted to take away Louisiana Democratic Gov. Kathleen Blanco's authority over the National Guard; after she refused, his staff failed to alert her in advance to his second visit to the state -- she discovered the snub by chance and showed up uninvited at the airport.
The president did not go to New Orleans on either trip, ignoring the suffering of thousands of poor blacks trapped there by the rising waters. In Louisiana, he stopped only in relatively safe and dry Baton Rouge.
Bush concentrated his attention on Republican, mostly white Mississippi, where he and GOP Gov. Haley Barbour engaged in an embarrassing partisan lovefest, praising each other's wonderful talents.......
Maybe Bush can pay for this whole mess with another "round of tax cuts"?
