14. I don't want to start a "flame" war here, but I don't think it's racism

either. I think it was "classism" (is that even a word?) It was all poor people. Yes, mostly black, but so isn't the population of NOLA.
If it happened in say, Maine, and all the poor people were left behind, it would mostly white people, we don't have a very diverse population up here, other than in the larger cities. In which case, it's still a pretty small population.

During Bush's whole term he's been "squeezing" the poor into a corner, he's done nothing to alleviate the rising rate of poverty in this country. I don't think he wants to. It affects us all who are poor. Black, white, green, yellow and purple (so to speak).

Maybe I'm wrong here, if I am, someone, (kindly) explain to me where my thoughts are off base here. I have an open mind, with the ability to change it.

What happened in New Orleans could not have happened in a society where every life is valued equally. When a person's skin color makes him or her less worthy of life, less worthy of a government's protection, less worthy of a nation's resources, less worthy, period... that is RACISM.

What happened in New Orleans would never have happened if those people were white. If we are honest with ourselves and each other, we would admit that.

America is a racist country. That needs to change. And, it needs to change NOW.
