2. We need somebody who is *qualified*.
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 02:28 PM by longship
That means he has years of experience...

* handling a large organization
* dealing with disaster situations
* has unquestionable people skills
* has demonstrated ability to be resourceful
* etc

No matter what good Sean Penn has done and no matter how much I like him I really do not think he is the type of person who we want at the head of FEMA, let alone the head of government. If he wants to be more involved, maybe he ought to run for Congress. That would be ultra cool.

7. They're the party without heart
I think we should use that as a catch phrase for the '06 election cycle.

9. Hey, Sean Penn rescued 40 people and has experience...
Edited on Sat Sep-10-05 01:57 PM by Enraged_Ape
in coordinating some kind of emergency activity, even if on a small scale.

The current head of FEMA doesn't even have that! His SOLE experience has been as a real-estate salesman and the head of some horse-breeder's association. WTF??!!

I would accept a cop, a firefighter, an EMT--ANYONE who's had experience dealing with an emergency over the bogus a$$clown currently in the position.

Hey, I know Sean Penn is an actor--not a politician--and that in no way would he accept a position like the head of FEMA. But Sean's proven that he's got the heart, the brains, the motivation, and the guts for a position like that. That's a million times better than the useless goof that GEORGE W. BUSH hand-selected for the job.

10. I agree...plus Sean Penn CARES ABOUT PEOPLE
He didn't need to receive a gold-embossed invitation from the mayor and governor (I guess that's what Bush and FEMA were waiting for)...he just saw that people needed helped, and headed down to New Orleans!

Also, wasn't Sean Penn one of the first people to state that Iraq didn't have any WMDs? He didn't believe all the pre-invasion hype, so he personally flew over to Iraq to check it out.

11. Sean Penn and Angelina Jolie are two celebrities...
I wouldn't mind seeing in some sort of governmental positions someday--at least as ambassadors. I think both of them have proven time and again that they are smart, informed, and truly caring. I think they would show the best side of this nation, as opposed to the horrific gangsters we have in positions of power now.

12. Politicians come from all kinds of career backgrounds
There's no reason why being a celebrity should preclude someone from running for public office or working in a government position. Isn't Angelina Jolie already a UN Ambassador of some sort?

13. Angelina Jolie is a UN Goodwill Ambassador
for the High Commission on Refugees. She's involved with PR, fundraising, etc., for a lot of refugee-related causes around the world.

I think she'd make a great U.S. Secretary of State, personally. Maybe someday when her kids are grown.

19. If anybody really cared about results
they'd try to hire Mr. Witt back. He's probably the best qualified in the world for that job.

If not him, ask him to suggest someone.

but it's not a rational world so alas...

enough courage to weather any disaster and fight for survivors ...he could be a public liaison.
