Then, it was relisted without the offensive word, it was taking bids, but now it's been cancelled again!!!???

Each time, it's removed by Ebay. I didn't read the ebay ad, so I don't know the reason they continue to remove it, but they are pretty strict on many things. The lister should read the ebay rules and try to find a way to comply.

I'm really sure it has nothing to do with any pro Shrub sentiment by Ebay. Believe me, there are lots of anti Shrub stuff for sale all the time. It HAS to be something else, or something he put in the description that's not allowed. BTW Ebay has an "adult" section too, so i don't think it's the "F" word either.

category. When I saw the original it was double listed under two political type categories.. not "adult". To view adult you have to state that you're over 18. A few of sellers call it the "iron curtain".

As for eBay and Bush... I'm not sure who owns Loomis Sayles Growth Funds (they "own" ebay) and I'm not sure about the stock owners since I know quite a few and they're all over the political spectrum but... I found this interesting info:

8. Does anyone have a saved copy of the auction? If so...

post a link, as a (mostly) seller and volunteer teacher of eBay for over 6 yrs I'll take a look at it and see if I can figure out why it was pulled again.

In the original auction he used the f word as well as one or two others in the description. He also used a URL in the auction which although not to a site selling items off ebay may have been enough to pull. Also they're hinky about using ** instead of the letters. I've heard a couple of reasons for this 1 is that it's just as bad as saying the word and 2 is because it's a wildcard signal and muddles eBay's search.

One of the biggest problems with eBay is when folks complain, ebay staff will look first (IF they look at all) but often it's a pull first and ask questions later.

He may be able to relist it in the "Adult" area. I'd suggest he talk to a rep at eBay, get the name, and ask if that would be acceptable. The adult area is much freer than themain area since you have to be over 18 supposedly to view it.

13. Just a tip: How To Copy a Web Page... For Future Reference :-)

It varies a bit from browser to browser but if, while in your browser, you go up to File and then down to "Save as..." or Save Page As..." make sure that it says Save As Type: Web Page.. then Save the file to someplace like your desk top. For it to be viewable to the public upload it to a FTP storage area and it can be viewed the same way it was, as a web page (make note of which browser you use... it helps). A friend of mine did this for a very popular auction of his over a year ago and when I uploaded it to my websites ftp space and used an Explorer based browser (that what he used to save it) it was like going back in time. :)

there were so then they'd pull all I hate (Bush, Libs, Kerry, etc) political stuff as well? Goodness knows there's plenty of that eh?

My SWAG after seeing the original is: he may not have taken out all the profanity; still used the ** he had after F (being a wildcard eBay's search goes weirdier then normal); he also had a url in his auction description and we all know only the BIG sellers are allowed to get away with that ;) ; OR... eBay is going bonkers with all the FRs "reporting" all sorts of fake/BS TOS violations and eBay is doing it's usual pull first and ask questions later.

eBay is hinky and trying to figure out "why" can be as challenging as nailing jello to a tree. It's one of the great aggitants of selling on there... but since it's the best place to sell stuff online :shrug: .

and I totally agree on all counts. Ive actually used star-swears in my auctions (music gear) ;-) and have even gotten away with saying "kick ass" & "shit" but my customers are mostly musicians so theyre not as likely to complain. The URL could do it for sure.. But I bet youre right about the complaints. Knowing how many assholes there are on ebay (frustrating sometimes isnt it?)... Im sure theyve gotten a million freeper initiated reports. If you can believe it, I actually got a hate-mail not too long ago... for having a peace sign as a photo in my auction.
But with all the other anti-bush stuff up there... Id think they would have to let it run. I think his description will have to be *perfect* though. Itll be interesting to see how it pans out for sure.

I also wonder...if the reporter who interviewed Cheney, when the comments were made, would be interested. If you revealed yourself, they may do a story.

I can just hear the lead in to the story, "A few days ago, while I was interviewing Vice President, Dick Cheney--a voice chimed in with an opinion--a very clear opinion--of Mr. Cheney..."

CNN may consider it an interesting human interest story to reveal the man behind the colorful comments.

You are an interesting person, Dr. O. You're a doctor. You are a survivor of the hurricane and you have a young baby. I think it's newsworthy and titillating that an educated, family man made those irreverent comments. You're an educated doctor. I think many were expecting that the voice behind the comments belonged to a college student. The fact that you're an educated, established family man, who is a doctor--is newsworthy. You speak for many, many people--from all socioeconomic levels--who agree that this administration is an abomination!

I think this would make a great story.

I also think that Dr. O could have a "Cindy Sheehan effect". By spotlighting extraordinary, "average Americans" and their dissatisfaction with BushCo--many others will realize that it's ok to speak out against this administration and their high crimes.

Regardless of what you decide to do, Dr O--I think you are an amazing American. You said what I can only dream of saying to that pasty-white pile of sociopathic, warmongering piece of tripe!

I am just so happy that he heard it!! They try to insulate themselves from the world--as they destroy this country, and Dr. O showed them that they can't hide forever!
