My hunch is Bush will raise taxes on the lower economic scale of his base the middle class repubs in order to help fund the rebuilding of New Orleans. That along with the higher gas and oil prices especially the predicted 71% hike in natural gas prices this winter should do the trick. I think he's already lost some of that good ol boy southern base from his lack of response to Katrina. And for sure will ultimately when they start realizing they are being taxed in very subtle ways to pay for the rebuilding.
