6. Can they reasonably issue terror alerts today? . . .
Given the total incompetence exhibited in the wake of Katrina, and FEMA's quite evident incapacity to respond to emergencies, I don't believe BushCo will want to draw attention to its deficiencies by issuing terror alerts -- for real or imagined threats. Witness the al Qaeda announcement this morning, that attacks are imminent in Los Angeles and Melbourne (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x1771619), yet despite a proven connection between the guy threatening LA and this region, there's been no elevation of the terror alert status - not even locally.

Barring and actual attack somewhere (such as the London bombings) I don't believe we'll see elevated terrorism levels for quite some time. . . this despite falling poll numbers and mounting criticism of the maladministration.

7. DHS's credibility is sinking so fast
Edited on Sun Sep-11-05 12:14 PM by Coastie for Truth
that neither Bush or Cheney nor Rove nor Chertoff could raise the threat level. Only General Russ Honore and Admiral Thad Allen have the credibility - and they would have to bring teh both to Washington, cigars and all - to announce the increased threat level.

and even then - it wouldn't fly.

8. Terror alerts? Why there's no
reason to have terror alerts. What's that? Impeachmen. . . LOOK OVER THERE! OH MY GOD!
