Clark versus Edwards: Mutually assured destruction?
I like both these guys, and feel that either of them would be a much stronger candidate against Bush than Kerry or Dean. But my fear is that they'll end up cancelling each other out in most of the Southern contests, resulting in a two-man race between two liberal Northeasterners. If one of them were to drop out at this point, I think the other would still have a shot at the nomination. But it just doesn't look like that's going to happen.

1. Well, Kerry and Dean could cancel each other out too
So long as all 4 stay in the race, it is geographically balanced, I think.

6. Not necessarily
You could have Dean and Kerry each getting a third of the vote, and the Edwards and Clark splitting the remaining third. If that's what happens, before long both Edwards and Clark would have to drop out.

7. Well, if they can only split 1/3 between them...
then they deserve to drop out. I think they'll do better than that though.

2. Nobody is going to finish consistently ahead of either of these two
in the south, I believe.

I don't think they'll cancel each other out. If they do, I think one will drop out.

3. The same might be said for Kerry and Dean.

Who are from adjoining states. But actually, I don't believe that. And I don't think that much support for each guy is regional. I support Edwards completely because I think he has the best shot at beating bush, not because he is my own senator. Indeed, during Nov-Dec I switched to Clark, because at that time, I thought HE had the best shot. But not anymore.

4. I agree completely
However I do think 2004 is not the right time for Edwards so I hope that Edwards will drop out, even though I like him very much. Edwards would be stronger on domestic issues while Clark is stronger on foreign policy and national security. Maybe they should team up; two southerners would be unstoppable.

5. Kerry's camp said they don't need the south.
Are they even going there?
