Senate Committee Meetings that should be covered this week?
We've seen the results of all that backslapping and cronyism.
This week there are several committee meetings of interest.
In particular, Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs
Committee is reviewing more appointments. Will they actually
question a candidate, not just pass them through on a voice
vote like they did for Brown. I've also included my personal
evaluation of what they plan in each.

Tuesday, Sept. 13
10 a.m. Finance Social Security and Family Policy Subcommittee
To hold hearings to examine how the nonprofit sector meets the
needs of American communities relating to charities on the
frontline. SD-106

(Finance Committee looking for how they can continue the
privatization of government responsibilities? Will Mr.
Robertson have his lobbyists there?)

Wednesday, Sept. 14
10 a.m. Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs To hold
hearings to examine recovering from Hurricane Katrina. SD-342

(By recovering do they mean covering their own asses for
giving Brown a total PASS out of their committee?)

Thursday, Sept. 15

10:30 a.m. Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs To hold
hearings to examine the nominations of Stewart A. Baker, of
Virginia, and Julie L. Myers, of Kansas, each to be an
Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security. SD-342

(Are these people qualified, has anyone looked at their
resume? How much did they contribute to GOP campaigns?)

2:30 p.m. Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Federal
Financial Management, Government Information, and
International Security Subcommittee To hold oversight hearings
to examine housing-related programs for the poor, focusing on
existing challenges in measuring improper rent subsidy
payments in housing assistance programs at HUD, as well as
Federal oversight of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance
Program. SD-342

(Gotta make sure no one who is even $1 over the poverty line
is getting rent assistance or energy assistance?)

Wednesday, Sept. 21

9:30 a.m. Judiciary To hold hearings to examine able danger
and intelligence information sharing. SD-226

(Committee to examine if they can blame Clinton for this?)
