Please respond to this poll - Intelligent Design
a local TV station (Rochester MN) just ran a rather lengthy program on the 10PM news about Intelligent Design. Slanted pretty heavy, I felt, to the ID angle. I say that as they interviewed a science instructor who was nay and had a state rep (fundie) on, an area reactionary (fundie) who got on the state science curriculum committee and tried to force ID into that curriculum, and some other Fundie rep.

Vote as you wish:

6. Very scary
51% say yes, add creationism or ID to the science curriculum. I always pictured Rochester as a bit more enlightened than that.

11. That's good news?
I am disturbed to think that 45% of Americans want religion taught in a science class. Nothing wrong with religion, per se. It's just not science, and I'm one of those weird people that thinks science ought to be taught in science class, you know?

:silly:

13. I'm also disturbed by that, but-compared to the earlier results-it's an
improvement.

Frankly, I'm amazed that in a country with free public education and a high literacy rate that this is even a question. I consider myself a somewhat wayward Christian, but I find the idea of teaching "intelligent design" presposterous. For Jebus sake, there isn't a shred of credible evidence to back "intelligent design".

I would have no objection to it being included in a class on mythology that included a variety of sifferent cultures but certainly never in a science class.

Reminds me of our health care system.

If you're rich, we have the best health care in the world. If you're not, well, our health care is better than what most 3rd world countries have!

Best we can say is, well, it could be worse. Sad.

17. It's not even so much 45% of americans...
It's just the people who care enough to vote on such polls. Those who believe that ID should be taught in schools are usually those who believe it blindly, and fight for it no matter what 'facts' or 'common sense' points towards.

12. And then God created idiots
some one has the skew the curve downward in science class.

I just saw one meatball lampooned on the daily show claiming that dinosaurs did not roam the earth millions of years ago- they lived in the garden of eden with Adam and Eve.

Yup.

They were all called Barney.

And..it was Adam and Steve.

Edited on Thu Sep-15-05 01:33 AM by paineinthearse
"Should a theory like creationism or intelligent design be added to the science curriculum at our public schools?"

I believe that all theories should be aired, so I would tend to vote "yes". But that will be interpreted as support for teaching ID.

Best scenerio would be to give it 5 minutes of "by the way..." time, then move on to teaching the scientific method that has given us modern medicine and technology.

So I voted "no".

Poll currently stands: Yes 41% No 59%

The piece really rubbed me the wrong way - It was pretty much a 10 minute editorial - not the role of my nightly local news, imho.
