Bush plans to spend his way out of Katrina mess
In order to win over the public again, Bush will throw hundreds of billions of dollars at the disaster zone, with little oversight, no accountability and no plan to repay it.

Un-fucking-believable.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/14/AR2005091402654.html

The president will call on Washington to resist spending money unwisely, but some in his own party are already starting to recoil at a price tag expected to exceed $200 billion -- about the cost of the Iraq war and reconstruction efforts. As emergency expenditures soar -- with new commitments as high as $2 billion a day -- some budget analysts and conservative groups are warning that the Katrina spending has combined with earlier fiscal decisions in ways that will wreak havoc on the government's finances for years to come.

Bush and Republican congressional leaders, by contrast, are calculating that the U.S. economy can safely absorb a sharp spike in spending and budget deficits, and that the only way to regain public confidence after the stumbling early response to the disaster is to spend whatever it takes to rebuild the region and help Katrina's victims get back on their feet.

"I think absolutely it's going to convert the political landscape in Washington," Sen. Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine) said of Katrina's impact. "We do have a social safety net in this country. Those aren't just words. Government has a role to play in people's lives."

3. And the redistribution of our taxes from the working class to
corporate interests. It looks like he might compound one mess on top of the other.

5. And the tax cuts will be approved
Is the Euro gaining strength from our weakness? What happens if other countries switch to the Euro instead of the dollar?

11. That's the beauty of it
They don't have to pay for it. By the time the bill comes it will be somebody else's problem.

6. Chimpy always talks big on what he's going to spend. He never deliveers.
Where are the armored vehicles in Iraq? Where is the aid for Africa? Where is the funding for "No Child left Behind?"
etc.

8. You can bet, the rebuilding will be as fast as possible so he can
get political mileage out of it....

They will win in the end on this, mark my words. You will never see any bodies, people will forget the horror of the first few days.

Blanco will continue to be Bush's "friend" so she can reap some political gain out of it.

It's all so easy, isn't it??? Meanwhile, the nitty gritty of lower wages, bankruptcy, etc. etc. will be buried under all the photo ops....

Please, Fitz, get Rove...

9. this money doesn't exist . . . it's a figment of his imagination . . .
if he just plans to print more money, the inflation will be double digit . . . if he plans to borrow it, we'll be owned by China . . .

whatever we're spending, we'd better start paying for . . . at minimum, the tax cuts to the wealthy must be repealed . . . followed by a tax increase for everyone earning over, say, two hundred grand a year . . .

and the corporations have to start doing their part . . . doing business in this country is a privilege, not a right, and those corporations taking their operations offshore to avoid taxes should be penalized . . . similarly, corporations moving good American jobs to other countries should be penalized . . . all other loopholes should be closed tight so that corporations, at minimum, pay their fair share . . .

10. Well hell yes...he will....because
Remember, Trent Lott's house has to be built better than it was before, so that Bush can sit on that new front porch with him...

And cut it off at the roots.

The well is only so deep.
