If no one else will dare say it, I will. Our nation has slimly elected a man whose family legacy is one of diabolical treachery put forth to compensate for a core of cultural and intellectual mediocrity, all implemented for the sole purpose of perpetuating a deep rooted hold on our nation's interest, both economically and socially. Further, this man is supported by a base of powerful constituents and corporations whose ideology is that of imperialism, global, religious and economic supremacy, and total power in reference to the full gamut of global society. As a result, I feel it my duty to issue a stern warning to my fellow citizens. My warning is for all Americans, all parties, all people, and is as follows:
Over the next four years, this administration will take every opportunity to relieve you of all of the rights that you enjoy as an American that conflict with the agenda and ideology of Mr. Bush and his constituency. Your Constitution, the very document that allows me to write these harsh and bitter words, will be under a constant state of attack. Each amendment, line by line, will be altered or deliberately misinterpreted to suit the whims of an administration that has demonstrated, both covertly and openly, its intention to reinstitute absolute and imperial reign over the affairs of every corner of the globe. Your true patriots, your determined protectors, and those who have their eyes wide open and are screaming from the rooftops will be discredited, or otherwise silenced. "He is against the revolution, off with his head" will be spoken in a contemporary tongue and practiced as policy by this administration and as the claws of this despicable family and its broad reach sink deeper into the very skin of our nation, you will be forced to move closer and closer to your on suppression for fear of being singled out as a modern traitor. That is, unless we as a nation stand against this new fascism.
Fascism and its cousins are easy to birth and maintain. It is democracy that calls for momentous labor from all parties. All that one needs for total power is the right lie and enough thugs to back it up, silencing oppression, restricting hard fought rights, and so forth. Once this is achieved, all else falls right into place as those who are now governed by the regime have either lost or have never gained the right to dissent. Generally, by the time this happens, the penalties for open opposition are so cruel and swift that no man or woman dare declare any opposition to the regime. Adversely, democracy requires our complete and undivided attention at all times, which most of us including myself for many years have fallen far short of doing. And now, on this very day, we are all suffering the consequences. We are now under the thumb of an administration that is progressively pushing harder and harder toward a new form of totalitarianism; one that will disguise imperialism as compassion; one that will reinstate the concept of divine right and religiously sanctioned government, which implies that we have not fully learned our lessons from the past; one that will practice profiteering and corruption from the backs of the newly conquered. Sadly, all of this will begin to happen right under most of our noses. And so, we must all realize that taking the burden now for the sake of our beloved democracy, as difficult as it may seem, is far less arduous than suffering later for the leisure of doing nothing at all.
I believe that these people have been so successful in their treachery to date for several reasons. Most importantly, I believe that our opposing party has spent too much time and energy bickering amongst themselves to be an effective deterrent for this cancer on our nation. It is as if status and the proverbial ladder have gotten the best of the more predominant Independents and Democrats, which implies to me that they are missing the point. On the other end of the aisle, it seems that the ladder has been very effective in quelling any opposition from the political peers of this administration. In other words, I believe that the self interest of those who are sworn to represent each and every one of you have failed you. They have chosen self preservation over their duty to preserve and maintain democracy, which is reprehensible and should not be tolerated by any of us. Despite the failures of our representatives, we must recognize that it is our neglect that has allowed self service and preservation to be the norm for those who seek and hold political office. For example, when is the last time any of us have written to our senator or congressperson? I am just as guilty in this case, but I have made myself a promise to become much more involved (thus, this first little piece of business!)
What else can be done about all of this? It is my belief that aside from voting (which we all seemed to do fairly well this term,) we must begin to identify with those rights which are now in jeopardy and take every opportunity to exercise them in spite of our fears. For, it is our fears that have silenced us. It is our fears that have allowed us to be deceived and divided. Regrettably, it is our fears that have allowed this administration to enjoy great success in moving our nation and the world backwards at the cost of the lives of tens of thousands over the past few years. What you can do is express every point of opposition to the administration over the next four years. Oppose verbally. Oppose by writing your thoughts as I have done. Oppose by researching the products and services you pay for that assist this administration. You must, however, be sure to express yourselves within the confines of the very rights you are fighting to protect. After all, that is the whole point. More importantly, I feel you must express yourselves while ensuring the much deserved gratuity and dignity of those who have chosen to defend our country. They have no choice as to what purpose they are ordered to serve and are not deserving of any misdirected wrath by those whom they have offered the price of their lives to serve. Remember, opposition to war is not extendable to those who are ordered into its service. These are mostly poor people who have been persuaded to serve by their desire for personal, economic, and educational improvement and are now forced to participate.
Truthfully, I am empathetic of all of your fears as I share the same fears. Dissent is a dangerous state of mind. However, it is the soul of patriotism. And so, I shall begin what I hope to be a monumental movement toward recapturing our freedom and the respect of the rest of the world in spite of this horrid administration by openly declaring my direct opposition to the principles, policies, and ideologies of George W. Bush and his constituency. I shall make my statements plainly and directly despite my own fears: Mr. Bush, you are a despicable man from a despicable family. You are the new fascist, whether you believe yourself to be or not. You have corrupted the dignity of my country strictly for the sake of your self interest and that of your benefactors. You have sent thousands to their death while you offered no service in your time. Nor did you offer any justifiable reason that would surpass your malice. You have robbed my children and grandchildren of the prosperous legacy of America to fund your own agenda. You have soiled this country's fundamental principals and have disguised your actions as "patriotic." You are the problem, Mr. Bush, and I shall make it my mission to reveal the beast that is your administration to all who will listen. I shall do all within my rights as a citizen to oppose you in spite of my fear and knowledge of your capabilities. I shall not be wavered by any threat or revelation of flaw in my character. For, I have fallen from grace in my lifetime. However, I have not soiled my humanity by utilizing any resource that would assist in disguising my inherent flaws as a human being. My words will hold weight because unlike you and your constituency, I am in full possession of my dignity. My dignity is my shield as it is my sword.
I hope that my words are more inspirational than apocalyptic. My words are harsh because we are now in a harsh situation. All that remains for me to say to all of you is that I beg you to stand up. Stand up and wipe the haze from your eyes. Stand up and take stock of your true convictions. Read your PATRIOT act. Read your Constitution. Do they compliment each other? Listen to your President. Has he spoken the truth? Check your newspaper. Am I still alive? Has some skeleton crept from my closet to disgrace my reputation or that of my family? Whatever you can think to do. Just, please. . .
