US Military closes off part of Eastern Baghdad to hide US deaths

In lastest breaking news, Bemildred has a post citing a Chinese news report out of Baghdad about multiple car bombings in Baghdad today. It reports that an Iraqi policeman told the reporter that among the targets was an American military humvee and that the vehicle had been destroyed and all Americans in it killed.

But this morning's story in the international section of the New York Times only says that:
"An American military humvee was targeted by
suicide bombers but THE AREA WAS CLOSED BY
US FORCES AND NO FURTHER INFORMATION
WAS PROVIDED". (My emphasis added).

Meanwhile Al Quaeda in Mesopotamia says that yesterday's and today's bombings in Iraq are revenge for the AMERICAN (emphasis added) and Iraqi assault on Tal Afar. Clearly, US servicemen are as much a target for revenge as are Iraqi soldiers and civilians.

Finally, my point! As has been questioned on DU, we have had no reports of American casualties or deaths recently despite a massive military actionat Tal Afar, or in massive bombings in
Baghdad. Now part of Baghdad is closed off and no information is given about a US military humvee destroyed there.

I think Bush and his handlers have ordered a blackout on news of military casualties in Iraq. This is to protect Bush's image before the UN at this week's conference, when he must be more exposed to international reporters, and also, fortuitously, so he can make his usual BS claims in his speech tonight that the US is doing so great in Iraq. If he refers to the Tal Afar battle as a huge success, that will clinch it.

3. It seems pretty unlikely to me...

that the soldier casualties would suddenly just stop. Yet, I haven't seen a casualty report since Katrina. Prior to that, we were seeing 2 or 3 reports every week.

I find it a lot easier to believe that somebody pulled the plug on reporting, than I do believing that Iraq suddenly got that much safer for US soldiers.
