O'Reilly Factor: Rice defends Iraq invasion in terms of coffee

http://rawstory.com/news/2005/OReilly_Factor_Rice_defends_Iraq_invasion_in_terms__0915.html

On Bill O'Reilly's 'O'Reilly factor' Wednesday evening, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice defended the U.S. occupation of Iraq in terms of coffee, RAW STORY has learned.

The quip came on the deadliest day of violence in Baghdad since the U.S.-led invasion two years ago, and was caught on tape by ThinkProgress. You can watch the video here.

O'Reilly remarked, "The truth of the matter is our correspondents at Fox News can't go out for a cup of coffee in Baghdad."

Rice replied, "Bill, that’s tough. It's tough. But what — would they wanted to have gone out for a cup of coffee when Saddam Hussein was in power?"

1. Ummm... yes, you idiot.
If they drank coffee, they would have wanted to, and been able to, get a cup in Baghdad.

7. You're getting off script. It's supposed to be "spider hole".
It sounds more sinister.

8. I thought it was "spidey hole". . .
retains the sinister feel, but gives him a slight air of super powers ("Look! It's Peter Parker in his Saddam Hussein costume -- loose briefs and a ragged beard!")

6. They could have safely gone out for a cup of coffee, I'd imagine.
Fact: Replacing a hostile but contained dictatorship with a nearly nationwide free-fire zone seething with potential terrorists... that's a policy failure.

Anyone trying to convince you that Bush's invasion of Iraq, with no plan for the immediate aftermath and the ensuing occupation... anyone telling you this was a good move just doesn't know what they're talking about.

You may as well ask them to share their views on quantum physics, because they're just as likely to stumble across a fact or two on that topic as they are with their blathering about Iraq.

9. Just watched an item on CNNi
An Iraqi was moving away from Baghdad. He had been an engineer, wife an OB/Gyn, grown children are all doctors. Lived in a nice home, completely intact, but was leaving for a neighboring country because it was only getting worse and had become unlivable. Spoke English very well but just couldn't stay any longer. When asked if/when he would return, thought for a moment and said it could be 10 years or longer.

Last throes, making good progress.
