FOX News Poll: Post Katrina, Bush Job Rating at Record Low
Today, 41 percent of voters approve and 51 percent disapprove of President Bush’s performance, which is the lowest job rating he has received in a FOX News poll.

The average approval rating for his presidency among Republicans is 90 percent; today 81 percent approve. Bush’s approval rating has gone into single digits among Democrats, coming in at 8 percent in this week’s poll. For independents, 30 percent approve.

15. What is power?
Sure, he can 'push "the" button' and wipe out a country but, if his poll numbers continue in this range or fall lower, his dream-agenda of dismantling SS, ending the estate tax, flat tax, etc. are dead. Congress has to deal with 06 elections and they will not put their necks out for an unpopular Prez.

5. look how misleading the averages are on FOX
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,144315,00.html

overall average of 60% my ass. once people snapped out of the anything-goes bush honeymoon of 9-11, his approval ratings have barely topped 50%. one spell of blind trust and his entire legacy of public acceptance has been skewed. no wonder fox goes through all the trouble of listing the "averages."

6. I'm betting it will go even lower.
I just finished a Zogby poll that was mainly about the government's response to Katrina, and also
what I thought about taxes being raised to help rebuild New Orleans. I even got to grade Chimpie.

One of the questions asked if I considered myself a Nascar fan. Go figure.

7. Zogby asks the Nascar question a lot.
But it was an excellent opportunity to rate the Master of Disaster.

8. This is a great opportunity.
With the Dems united in condemnation, we should be able to make inroads among the Republicans. I think that we can do that by making the case that their party has morphed into one of corporate cronyism, welfare for the wealthy, fiscal irresponsibility, crooked elections, the reckless use of force internationally, and the invasion of privacy.
In my experience, the non-fundy Republicans still cling to the (untrue) belief that their party stands for something other than the above.

11. The 8% Democrats supporting Bush...an explanation
They are Republicans, but they think by saying they are Democrats for the poll, they make it look like Bush has bipartisan support.

14. Raid on American Petroleum Reserve
Energy Secretary, Samuel W. Bodman, stated that the Federal Government will release oil from petroleum reserves to assist refiners impacted by disruptions caused by Hurricane Katrina.

There are several problems with this announcement. Bodman’s release of the crude oil was supposed to provide refineries in the Gulf Coast area a temporary supply to replace shipments delayed by the storm.

The emergency petroleum stockpile of about 700 million barrels of oil is stored in caverns along the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast.

The main flaw in the announcement made by Bodman is that production and distribution of oil and natural gas remains severely impaired by the inoperability of a huge oil offloading import terminal off the coast of Louisiana. It was designed for servicing tankers that are too large to enter the ports of Mobile or New Orleans. The reason provided for releasing the oil – that it will provide a supply for the refineries while other systems are repaired appears to be false.

Widespread loss of electricity transmission has impeded power to the pipelines and refineries.

The oil and gas must be taken from the caverns and then transported either by pipeline, truck, ship or rail to the refineries. By the time the infrastructure is in place to move the emergency oil normal shipments will have resumed.

Oil futures have jumped nearly 20 percent in the last few days giving a windfall profit to the companies awarded the emergency oil and gas before they even took it out of the ground.
