The Freepers are FLIPPING OUT right now...

34. Had to giggle
I got a smile this morning when I saw that "conservative members of Congress are freaking out over all the Katrina spending and are looking to make cuts in other programs" (to paraphrase loosely).

Hee hee... guess I shouldn't laugh too hard. Who knows what they might do.

6. I thought I was listening to a liberal
Seriously, he must have hired some liberal speech writer. It was almost funny - George Bush talking like a liberal.

Thing is, I don't believe a damn thing he says or does anymore. HIs base shouldn't be too concerned. He won't follow through. It was just lip service because his poll numbers were tanking so bad and he was being perceived as being oblivious.

Don't concern yourself, Freepers, your guy is still in there. It was an act. Period.

15. That would be Karl Rove. Still want more?
This is a sack of shit and everyone knows it. He hasn't had a change of heart nor does he give a shit about anyone but Bush. This was a pure political speech aimed to shore up his broken levee poll ratings. If the Dems play this right, they could make it back-fire on them in a huge way.

8. Did you notice the dual message?
1) Did he mention the city of New Orleans by name when he opened? or did he just say "from the shores of Lake Ponchartrain".

2) "Vulnerable people left at the mercy of criminals" - what about no security, water or evacuation?

3) Tulane Hospital he mentioned workers who went without food. At Tulane Hospital if you couldn't say your own name and were a patient, you didn't get the IV for those last few days.

4) "Faith in God no storm can take away"

5) Bush's Eyebrows & frown do not match his mouth. Mouth had a hard time doing stern or somber and staying on message. Forehead did fine and followed the speech.

6) Finally some sweet words to the Red Cross.

7) "We will help people navigate bureaucracies". Perhaps with an oar. Bureaucracy is now the enemy. It was always the intended scapegoat.

8) On Reconstruction: "Taxpayers expect this to be done honestly & wisely". Yes Bush.. how do the non-taxpayers like Halliburton expect it to be done? We all know taxpayers are a shrinking group. What about the part of the country that doesn't pay taxes?

9)"Houses of Worship being reimbursed for their expenses" from the Clinton/Bush private fund no less. Okay - Bible passage?

10) When he spoke about failure and the need for Feds to take over response more - he couldn't help but look sideways and to his right. Who was he looking at. What was he stealing a "peak" at? Did someone react? What happened?

11) "As God who welcomes those to a house not made by hands". I take it people in NO were whining about materialistic things when they should have been happy about being in a "shelter not made by hands". How superficial of them. Victims of NO: zero. Bush's base: all white light and perfect one more time.

12) Prepare: "for a challenge of nature or act of evil men". A little vague - the base will read into that what they want. We all will.

13) Nice that housing & breaking the cycle of poverty is important - now.

14) Where is the federal land people can win in a lottery?

The prez gets up and says all this nice stuff. The Republican congress rebels and doesn't pass anything. Mission accomplished--just like the flight suit speech.

George loses his base, but who cares, he isn't running again. The republican congress keeps their base by showing George the door.

10. Lots of references to "minority"
Funds to build minority housing, funds to help minority entrepreneurs, tax breaks for minority businesses.

I thought whites in New Orleans were the minority race...

My point is that he has infuriated his base.

And when the Republican controlled congress votes against it, they will be even more fucked than they are now.

14. I will say that his mouth wrote a lot of checks
I'm guessing that Congress isn't going to cash them, though.

Because to pay for all those rosy promises, the Republicans will have to r-a-i-s-e taxes, and that just isn't in their playbook. These idiots are firmly convinced that the credit card statement will get lost in the mail, or the dog will eat it, or somehow or another that if they don't see it, they don't have to pay it.

Edited on Fri Sep-16-05 12:36 AM by Clarkie1
in our society, the conservatives have no choice but to put their tails between their legs and run shamefully from their morally bankrupt political ideology.

That said, words are cheap.

Fixing the economic and social problems in this country will require far more than a massive federal response to the the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

It will require a change in leadership and political ideology that doesn't require a category 5 hurricane to kick it in the ass before it decides to do what is right for the American people.

Funnel taxpayer money into the MIC.

Nothing new here.

Cept conservatives won't go for it, since there is only a minor chance a random arab will die.
