Ted Kennedy should publicly applaud the President's speech.
The best way to really get the goat of the Right-wingers is for Ted Kennedy to hold a press conference and publicly embrace Bush's speech and say he is more than satisfied with Bush's response. I can think of nothing better to piss off the Right-wingers than to have the "most liberal" Democrat thank Bush for such a grand speech. Out of all the Democrats they seem to hate him the most and if Ted embraces the President as a long-lost brother, they'll go into conniptions.

7. Including giving more power to the Executive Office & the military?
You didn't find that little bit of fascism buried within the text of pretending to give a fuck about real Americans to be disturbing? Or did you even notice? Here's a clue. They also used the horror of 911 to give more power to the Executive Office while stripping Americans of their civil liberties. Does it sound familiar now?

Question everything that bastard does or proposes. So, he now acknowledges the existence of the poor---the poor that has grown 17% since he took (literally) office. Well good. Begin to dismantle all of the economic policies that have lead to the ever increasing numbers of the poor.

Rather than passively and opportunistically biting because he is weak and playing to the left, I say go for the jugular. The jugular is indeed exposed. This administration has not only pandered to the rich at the expense of the poor, they have crushed anyone with a sense of morality for speaking up for the poor. Everything that the neo-cons have done since being in power has been to vilify the poor. Until Bush*s speech tonight, the rnc and the administration itself has actively engaged in vilifying the poor.

So what is your answer to bush* wanting more Executive power? How does that weigh in on your response?

8. He derives his power through his base, if he loses them...
he's done. Obviously, nothing we do or say is going to change whatever power grab he has in mind. I know he's a fascist, we all know he's a fascist. The Right-wingers believe he's a conservative but if they think he's changed camps to save his image, they'll turn on him like a pack of wolves. This is an opportunity to capitalize on his weakness by crumbling his base. We already hate him and nothing he says or does is going to change that. The moderates, if there are any, don't care one way or the other. We have a chance to shake this monkey out of his tree by sending the "most liberal Democrat" to support his call. But it should only be Kennedy and the others should maintain their classic Democrat silence. There's an opportunity to erode support the conservative Right-wing agenda. Opposition doesn't always mean you have be hostile. We could score huge here if they play this right.

13. Great post.
You are absolutely on target about the Republicans vilifying the poor. They are interested in nothing except furthering their billionaire masters' agenda. They'd much rather not shell out government money to make it look like they are doing something for the poor, but they'll do what they need to do to soften opposition in the short run. For them it's just a regrettable but necessary cost of doing business. They will resume their war on the poor just as soon as the heat is off. Which is why we must do everything in our power to keep the heat on.

6. Well, the programs Bush laid out sound like
FDR and LBJ style Democratic programs. If Bush actually went through with his plans, and Kennedy embraces him, the right-wingers would lose their minds. The right would forced to oppose the measures, or piss off the base. I for one hopes that he's serious, and actually forces the Repubs to pass these measures, on general principle.

9. He's not serious...
His speech was written by Rove and everything in it was a deception. That's the beautiful part about bringing out Kennedy to embrace his speech. It'll blow up in thier face.
