Did he really just say that? (in the press conference going on now). Other programs will be cut, not a halt called to further tax cuts, or troops called back from Iraq.

Please tell me I heard that wrong!

the poor in NO. We all saw this coming, why am I even surprised?

Further thoughts: I guess I am surprised because the truth has come out so quickly on the heels of what sounded like a compassionate speech last night. I expected at least an attempt to hide the truth. What an AWFUL PRESIDENT!

5. Yes he did. Tax cuts would be bad for the economy!
Never mind the billions being wasted in Iraq! They'll "offset" spending on other things. He is still clueless.

7. what bs is that
yet another subliminal plan to feed the Halliburton and turn NO into the next corporate Disney.

Gee wiz, poverty...now how did that happen that these people who are working could not even afford a car?

My only hope is CNN starts covering the poor. Nothing better than the image of someone homeless, dying of the street because they can not afford health insurance.

13. Great approach: start interviewing those who already are losing in *'s
economic plans, about how they feel about paying for the NO reconstruction. i.e. a elderly person living on minimal SS, who now is threatened with removal of COLAs (a Bush proposal) so he will fall even further into poverty, a family who has already been removed from Section 8 housing assistance (Bush is cutting that too), etc, etc. Title of the segment should be "Who Should Pay For New Orleans?" This should be done carefully, or it will only serve to pit one group of poor against the other (a favorite RW strategy). The point being made that if it was not for the war, the tax cuts, the favortism toward cronies, etc., we wouldn't be in this mess.

This President is a monster.

8. That is no surprise...I assumed that was the plan all along.
They are going to take the axe to everything...which is something the GOP just loves to do.

18. Not take an axe
but divert funds - all these cuts in programs will go straight to the BFEE.

to drain the treasury so that all New Deal Programs will have to be eliminated.

Then

government will become so small

they can drown it in a bathtub.

That's been the plan and the willingness of (alleged) conservatives to spend like there's no tomorrow is only because it furthers their ultimate aim..

bankrupt government so there is no money left to pay for anything but 1) interest on the debt and 2)Military industrial complex....

Katrina just happened to give them an EXPRESS RAMP to their goal of "STARVING THE BEAST".

14. ...well I knew all that. Just thought that low ratings would force cutback
(at least for a time) of some of the most draconian plans. Oh, I hope those polls don't go up because people heard a speech last night, but didn't hear the details today!

a bit on the most egregious elements of his give-to-the-rich policies. Silly me.
