Anyone know when Byrd speech today on the Constitution will

be shown again on C-SPAN? Did anyone actually hear him? What were the hightlights. I went to his site but this isn't up yet.

1. I saw the speech today on CSpan

I don't know when it will be repeated though.

He focused mainly on the importance of the Constitution every day in the lives of all Americans.

He said that the day the Constitution no longer exists, it will be anarchy for the US.

He emphasized the balance of power, and particularly pointed out that even though a president has the right to nominate individuals, eg, to the Supreme Court, it is very important for citizens to understand that the role of the Senate is one of Advise and Consent, and it is their job to ensure that the president doesn't push through nominees that are not qualified for the jobs they will are nominated for.

I felt he was alluding to the many inept individuals nominated by Bush, ie, Brown, Chertoff et al. He did say we could end up being 'ruled by our inferiors'! The audience laughed when he said that.

He also spoke about the importance of citizens, especially those who swear to defend and protect the Constitution, understanding it. Which is why he introduced the legislation that requires Federal Employees to have an understanding of the Constitution.

His bill to make Constitution Day a national holiday did not pass, he said ~ he wanted it to be celebrated in the same way the flag day is celebrated.

There was some humor in the speech, and he sounded much stronger than he has recently ~ I will try to see it again, as I did miss part of it.

He wore a tie decorated like a flag, and his Constitution Lapel pin, and the backdrop was a large picture of the words from the Constitution 'We The People' ~ he was very well received and the audience appeared to be very attentive.

I will try to catch it again, I agree, as always, Byrd was eloquent and passionate about the rights of the people given to them by the Constitution.
