How Katrina Turned me Republican not all Democrats are turning against
Bush

I find it personally insulting that the media has all but written President Bush's obituary in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
Unfortunately for the media, we have met the enemy and they are us. Many of us recognize that we have been our own worst
enemies in our response to this disaster and the preparedness beforehand (the media included). The conduct of left wingers over
the past several weeks has erased any lingering doubts in my mind as to why I have been leaning more toward the conservative side
as each year passes. Any progressive views that I share with the left (such as environmental concerns and energy conservation)
will remain secondary to the belief that the Republicans are our only hope of maintaining and protecting everything that makes America great.

Yeah, right. Except for blacks and the poor.

I'd like to slam Drew's puffed-up head into McCain's birthday cake. bush can sing him to him on his new guitar.

31. Yup, class divisions, racism, cronyism, corruption, warmongering...
lying to the American people, fear-mongering, destroying the social safety net, governing only for the privileged elite, driving America back to the 19th century, greed, social injustice...

Yup, Republicans protecting those things indeed...

8. Oh my Gawd what bullshit.
Imagine this scenario... no hurricane, but heavy rains in Southern Louisiana and the upstream Mississippi River... the river is at a extreme high.
Now, a group of terrorists blow the levies, giving the same flooding as occured in the hurricane.
And Fema takes a week to show up and start helping.

Republicans have rode the backs of the 9/11 dead for 4 years now, and we STILL are not ready for a big terror attack.

If anything, the response by the Reich Wing Noise Machine that you are a member of, Mr. Drew who was never in his whole life a Democrat and doesn't realize that the Corparate owned media has been giving Bush a PASS for the past 7 odd years, has convinced me that the Republican Party is not only wrong for America, greedy pigs sucking at the government teat, and evil, but INCOMPETENT.

In 1992, I voted against Bush Sr. because he seemed disconnected from reality about the economy.
In 1996, I voted against Bob Dole because I thought he was wrong.
In 2000, I voted against George Jr. because I was afraid he was incompetent.
In 2004, I knew he was incompetent and voted against him again.
I will vote against whoever the Republicans put in in 2008, because they have shown me over the past 15 years that they cannot be trusted with power, any power, at all.

And Bullshit artists like you aren't going to change my mind, Mr. Drew.

9. if you were a true democrat
you would NEVER be for bush on any level. he is against everything progressive and what the Democrats stand for (or at least use to stand for)

all he gives a shit about is his rich buddies. he has systematically ruined FEMA during his time in the white house, gotten rid of people who knew what they were doing and hired buddies of his (like brown who had no emergency management experience of any real use)

same thing happened under his dad, its why florida got screwed over in 1992 with andrew, part of the reason why papa bush lost florida in the 1992 election.

bush sucks face it.

15. Who cares, really?
The response to the disaster was a disaster, and the media, at least initially, reported it as so. This logically challenged crap of "The Democrats are blaming Bush, so therefore the Democrats are to blame" is really silly. Just ignore this crap. It's the same thing over and over from these right winger idiots.

to try to protect a shameless Administration that allowed American citizens to die of thirst and exposure in one of our own cities.

It truly is amazing how these wingnuts shamefully act as if this disaster was some minor mistake that we should quickly understand and move on over. . .I can't.

18. Bush as The Ultimate Security Blanket
I think that's the best way to describe the mentality of individuals who respond to crises like the one in the OP's post. For them Bush has become an all important symbol of safety by the mere fact of the office he holds. Great and horrifying national events like Katrina cause individuals like this to ignore substantive arguments because to truly pay attention to such arguments would erode the psychological comfort that this "security blanket" provides them. Not only do they feel a need to cling to an image of Bush as a strong capable leader regardless of his actions and the facts, but they also feel compelled to lash out against anyone who criticizes him.

34. To eliminate confusion, use the [div class="excerpt"]and[/div] tags
around cited material,
like this.
In that sentence, I put (div class="excerpt") around the text (/div), but instead of parenthesis, I put brackets: []

Should drive on down to Slidell or Long Beach or Bogalusa and ask those fine people living in the streets how much they appreciate how the Republicans have kept them safe.

And if, after seeing and listening, he still wants to cling to his delusions, he should put a .38-caliber to his forehead and do the world a favor.

42. Funny, I leaning more Democratic than ever. Bush and Co.
lied about working to make us safer and having emergency services in place through Homeland Security Department. The plan fact is that we were safer under Clinton and I believe we would have been even safer if John Kerry were President.
I can't fathom how anyone who believes in Democratic ideas and truly cares about people and this great country can so easily change parties. Even more surprisingly over some Bush criticism. This is just ridiculous.
The bottom line is this, Bush was paraded around as the Security President and the strong leader, and Katrina exposed him and displayed him for the phony he actually is.
Democrats want to Keep America great- the Republicans want to turn America into a pure Capitalist society swimming in greed and ignorance and one that ignores its people and destroys the environment.
Any "Democrat" that has turned against the Democrats because of a few harsh well deserved words directed at Bush was no Democrat to begin with.
