An op-ed column in the October 23 edition of the New York Times cites important evidence of collusion between independent counsel Kenneth Starr and lawyers for the Paula Jones sexual harassment lawsuit against Bill Clinton. The author, Richard Ben-Veniste, former chief of the Watergate Task Force in the Watergate special prosecutor's office, makes the case that the independent counsel guided Linda Tripp in her manipulation of Monica Lewinsky.<

Those involved include:
* Richard Porter, a former White House aide to George Bush and Dan Quayle,
* Jerome Marcus, a Philadelphia lawyer and former law school classmate of Porter's, whom Porter contacted to assist the lawyers for Paula Jones.
* George T. Conway III of New York, another friend of Porter's who worked with Marcus on the Supreme Court briefs.
* Ann Coulter, a Washington lawyer, right-wing activist and frequent guest on television talk shows, who assisted in the Jones lawsuit and..
All four lawyers were members of the Federalist Society, an association of right-wing lawyers, numbering about 5,000, which also includes among its members Kenneth Starr. <

http://www.umsl.edu/~skthoma/plwordr.htm>Both Tripp and Goldberg are apparently Republicans. Tripp was one of only two holdovers from the Bush White House. Goldberg was exposed in 1973 as "a spy for Nixon while she traveled with the press corps" covering McGovern's 1972 campaign. It was at this time that she said she worked for NANA (North American Newspaper Alliance), and supplied an address for NANA which "is the same as her current residence" in Manhattan. Watergate investigators "said the Nixon campaign paid her $1,000 a week." <
