Rasmussen: Bush Katrina Ratings Fall After Speech (35% say "good job")
http://rasmussenreports.com/2005/Katrina_September%2018.htm

September 18, 2005--Thirty-five percent (35%) of Americans now say that President Bush has done a good or excellent job responding to Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. That's down from 39% before his speech from New Orleans.

The latest Rasmussen Reports survey shows that 41% give the President poor marks for handling the crisis, that's up 37% before the speech.

Fifty percent (50%) of Americans favor the main proposal from that speech--a federal commitment of $200 billion to help rebuild New Orleans. Twenty-seven percent (27%) are opposed and 23% are not sure. The spending plan has not been well received by conservative voters--just 43% favor the huge federal commitment partisan while 37% are opposed. This is especially striking given how supportive the President's base has remained throughout his Administration.

Following the speech, the President's rating for handling the Katrina crisis fell eight points among Republicans (from 71% good or excellent to 63%). The President also draws good or excellent marks from 11% of Democrats and 31% of those not affiliated with either major political party.

5. President's rating fell eight points among Republicans
They don't like all the spending to help poor people and Negroes. That's not their constituency.

6. That can't be........
The FOX News Poll said the speech was "perfect", just what needed to be said. I trust FOX News to be fair and balanced. :sarcasm:

7. At the local grocery...
...members of the 82nd Airborne were taking donations for relief efforts (money and goods). What was striking is the gentleman I spoke to, one of the first things he mentioned was how sad it was that so much corporate cronyism was occurring when people still needed help. These guys knew all about the no-bid contracts and the slow response, and were willing to talk about it. WWII and Vietnam vets, quick to mention the corruption and how the war in Iraq had drained us of the resources to respond adequately.

13. Chimp's incompetence is starting to sink in
Edited on Sun Sep-18-05 06:27 PM by npincus
First, Chimp attacks Iraq- a country that posed us no threat, in response to 9-11, instead of capturing and killing Bin Ladin. The Iraq occupation is and has been a disaster.

Now, the second great tragedy of his presidency, the Katrina disaster, he vitually ignores for almost 3 days... and the brain-dead federal response costs many lives. People realize all of Chimp's bluster about protecting Americans is a big load of horse manure, and this crew is merely slick, shallow and profoundly incompetent.

I don't think these minds can be changed. Hopefully more and more will see the light.
