Cindy Sheehan calls out Hillary Clinton
The president's dismal poll numbers may have Democrats feeling a little better about their electoral prospects in 2008, but news out of New York last night underscores a fact that a lot of Democrats in Washington would like to forget: Iraq is a galvanizing issue for a lot of Americans, but it's not without its complications for the opposition party.

When Cindy Sheehan spoke in Brooklyn last night, she had George W. Bush Iraq's policies centered in her sights. But along the way, Sheehan took note of the fact Sen. Hillary Clinton voted to authorize Bush to use force in Iraq and -- like most Senate Democrats -- hasn't called on him to bring the troops home yet. "She knows that the war is a lie but she is waiting for the right time to say it," Sheehan said of Clinton. As the New York Times reports it, the crowd cheered as Sheehan said: "You say it, or you are losing your job."

There's more than a little hyperbole there: Whatever she says about Iraq, Hillary Clinton isn't at much risk of her losing her job in the U.S. Senate. But Sheehan's comments foreshadow problems Clinton -- and a lot of other Democrats -- may face in contending for the Democratic presidential nomination for 2008. While nearly 60 percent of the public disapproves of the way Bush is handling the war and thinks some or all of the U.S. troops should come home now, few Democrats in Washington have pushed hard for a specific timetable for a withdrawal. Clinton isn't among them; to the contrary, she has said that more troops may be needed before the U.S. is done in Iraq.

That may or may not be the right answer, but it's not one that's going to satisfy Sheehan or millions of other Americans who think that 1,900 dead Americans is already too high of a price to pay for a war that shouldn't have been fought in the first place.

1. What's interesting is how support for the war
has gotten even worse post-Katrina. It's as if Bush's leadership standing has taken such a body blow (among people who already didn't hate him) that it's affected everything else, too. I agree that Iraq could be problematic for Dem primary candidates in 2008.

12. Very Curious -
- Cindy calls out NY Senator Clinton one day and her NYC rally is stopped by police the next day.

Could one have anything to do with the other?

2. Cindy is right
What is staying the course if there is no clear agenda?
Requesting a larger amount of U.S. troops would accomplish what?
Why haven't more dems come out against *s war when most polls show a decline for support of this war?
Why in the HELL did they vote for it anyway!?

6. Maybe most Dems thought that...
Iraq would turn into a Democracy in a few months after Saddam and his forces were defeated? Maybe with the fervor for overthrowing Saddam and getting rid of those WMDs got most Dems to vote for IWR because midterm elections were coming up and they didn't want to risk not getting re-elected by not backing protecting Amerika?

14. What is the status of the constitution creation in Iraq?
Will Iraqi's vote in large numbers to ratify the new Iraqi
constitution? Will that event bring on more terrorism and
bombings?

7. The same answer as to way these Dems are always behaving badly
It is the nature of the two party/same corporate master system of government that we're living under. Our wishes, our votes no longer count for much, if anything. It is all about the money. You pony up the cash, and you get to call the tune. This is why many, many corporations continue to donate aprox equal sums to both parties, that way they have control no matter who wins, which means that you and I and the overwhelming majority of Americans lose.

The only way to break this grip that corporate America has on us is to refuse to vote for or support any candidate, Dem or 'Pug, who takes any corporate cash, even if it means going Green to do so(the Greens never, ever take corporate money) In the last Presidential race, the only Dem who didn't take corporate cash was Kucinich.

The other thing that we can do is to go state by state and pass laws that publicly fund election campaigns, thus getting even more corporate cash out of government.

Once you take corporate cash out of our government is when you will restore government of the people, by the people and for the people to the people. Until that happens, we are going to see the rule of corpoatations expanding to the point where they rule all.

10. Pure Fascism
the only thing Corporate Rule means.

My local dems are great sort of like Kucinich , but if I have to go National with a Green Prez so be it.

5. saw Cindy in LA about 10 days ago.
She was calling DiFi out as well. Feinstein will not meet w/ her, only her aides. Boxer has met w/ her twice, I think. Feinstein's aides told her DF is concerned about what would happen if we left. Cindy said "I guess her husband hasn't made enough money off the war yet'.

Slap!

13. why should Hillary be exempt from criticism if she supports
Edited on Mon Sep-19-05 05:46 PM by jonnyblitz
the war? I SERIOUSLY doubt Cindy will lose support over criticism of Hillary. People aren't THAT stupid. Hillary deserves ALL the criticism she gets for her support of this invasion.

17. Hillary proposes to INCREASE the troop level in IraqNam
She wants to be this millenium's LBJ. Fortunately if she runs, she will go down in flames.

Unfortunately if she runs, we'll be stuck with another neocon fuckwad, with an R behind his name, instead of a neocon fuckwad with a D behind her name

15. I'm With Cindy!!!
I'm NOT with Hillary! There was a time when I really admired her, now it's pretty much turned to ashes. And I must say I feel badly about it too! However, it's hard to lie to yourself and how you feel and she just doesn't do it for me.

She's changed a lot!
