I do, of course, agree that is he is usually a jerk and he does have a rep of being quite nasty (and quite funny).

As for Al Gore, no matter who he came out for, he'd have gotten slammed. If he came out for Kerry, all we'd hear is "establishment, establishment, they all stick together", if it was Clark: "see, Gore is still backing the Clinton people", Edwards: "Looks like Mr. Gore is trying to make up for not asking the Senator to be his running mate."
