Warren Beatty leaves the "door open" for run against Ahnuld!!!
ABC News (Radio)- They just announced on KGO that Beatty hasn't ruled out running for the Governor of California!!! I've got a big smile going right now. Gotta love the idea. As a native Californian...I sure as hell do!

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Peace.

2. We already have an actor as governor
and it's not working so well.

What's wrong with people who have experience in government?

I love Beatty's political positions - it doesn't mean he can accomplish anything in government.

He's also known as a notoriously slow and difficult director. It takes him 10 years to get a movie made. Why should we think that's a good quality in a governor?

I will NEVER understand the celebrity-worship we have here.

Phil Angelides is my guy. He's got a degree from Harvard in Government and has spent his life in public service and is a life-long progressive.

Beatty can speak out on causes, and I'll support him. But what possible reason exists that would make me think he's qualified to run this state?

7. No
government is too important to be left to celebrities.

I HATE this trend in America that says being famous and politically agreeable means you can run the government. It's the very worst result of the shallow celebrity-worshipping culture we've created.

And I'm a celebrity whore. I actually will read an article about Brad & Jen & Angelie, and I watch the awards shows... but dammit, I don't want these people to run my government!!!

I have actually had the benefit of meeting Warren Beatty because his wife was a friend of a friend. They're a lovely couple. Annette is a fantastic lady and a great mother, and Warren is an incredibly intelligent guy. I don't mean to imply that we're friends - they wouldn't remember me for shit. But as much as I liked and respected him, he has NO qualifications to be governor.

Being a successful gigolo cum actor cum director is impressive in itself, but it doesn't mean you can govern the fifth largest economy in the world.

Angelides is a bright w/ a vision 2 go forward rather that tread water. He is a true progressive. I've had one fundraiser 4 him in SoCal & attended another. He will make a great governor 4 California.

5. And by some accounts he an egotist to rival Arnold

His sexual history is probably more extensive than Arnold but less kinky and illegal. And he's likely been faithful since he finally got married.

Not that there's anything wrong with that ...

However ... will the Repubs play "You're So Vain" against him ?

8. I don't even care about that stuff...
but his sexual history IS more extensive (and more impressive) than Arnold's.

While Arnold was letting rich men who owned muscle magazines blow him, Warren was bedding Vivian Leigh, Natalie Wood, Barbra Streisand and a few hundred other icons.

Arnold gets to stick it in Skeletor. Warren wins.

30. I wouldn't say reputed "threesomes" isn't kinky.
Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 01:17 PM by nvliberal
Not only that, but supposedly he wanted sex at least four times a day, and at least one of his conquests, actress Joan Collins, got tired of the grind (pun intended) and split with him.

Beatty wasn't any old Hollywood lothario. He was reputedly one of the great lays in the history of show business, with a track record more extensive than Sinatra's or Ryan O'Neal's or Chaplin's.

I suppose it is lucky he had talent that way, for he's the dullest damned thing who ever walked the planet otherwise.

I have NEVER been able to sit clear through one of his movies, and he was just as bad on the old "Dobie Gillis" television program of the late 1950s.

It also doesn't help he has a fruitcake for a sister.

Annette Bening can have him. He does nothing for me.

Can we please leave the governing to the professionals? 50% of being a good governor is being a good administrator. This is part of the reason ahnuld has failed so miserably. He's got all the right stuff as a politician, but he can't administrate worth a fuck.

Phil Angelides.

He's got experience, talent and a great progressive history.

And if you don't like him, we have Steve Westly. I don't like him myself, but at least he's a reasonable democrat.

Why are you excited about Beatty?

You DO understand that the things an actor says are not the same things a governor can implement, don't you?

Governance is not all about your positions - it's about what you can accomplish.

Beatty couldn't accomplish shit. I actually think he'd be less successful than Arnold.

Of course not. They'd have to work collectively with a group instead of having a staff to kiss their ass like they always did in the movies. I'd vote for Beatty if he ran (just so I could watch Ahnuld have to humble himself in a concession speech) but I'd really prefer someone who knew what the fuck was involved in governing a state.

Beatty would just have more staged appearances with
filtered lenses and fine tuned lighting.

17. I'm sick of this crap. We had a president who was an actor, remember?
And he was a joke. Not as bad as W but that's faint and damning "praise" because he was still god-awful. I'm sorry, I fail to see how being an actor (or worse, movie star) qualifies you to run a state or the country. I know we've got some sorry political candidates out there and I do know that there are indeed some brilliant people who are actors but I hate this whole trend of actors-as-politicans. This is what this country has disintegrated into-we choose the most "likable" instead of the most "qualified."

18. IMO, you are looking at this
all wrong. Beatty isn't running for president..he May be running for Gov of California..a state that he loves and hates seeing run into the ground by the Worst actor of all..the shovelnator.

What makes Beatty being an actor not qualified to care about his state and country? Most politicians are fulla shyte ..so I fail to see how Beatty's being an actor who has been politically active for a long time..makes him automatically unqualified?

Beatty will have the truth on his side..what a concept!

25. From his producing background particularly, he's taken on large, difficult
and at times, controversial projects...and did them well, with an impressive attention to detail. And successful producing involves careful "budgeting" and management of a wide spectrum of "tempermental" and varying personalities...the successful coordination of which also makes a good Director, well-liked by his actors. And I understand Beatty is a well-liked and respected Director as well. All the qualities also needed in a good Governor/ politician. AND he's charasmatic, AND a TRUE Dem!

AND he's far much more than the "pretty boy" Hollywood depicted him as in his earlier years. He's extremely intelligent, and thoughtful, and acutely knowledgeable and interested in politics.

I think he'd be great! Isn't it about time the Dem's ran a Hollywood heavyweight against a Repug Hollywood intellectual lightweight?

Go Warren! And, come to think of it, Annette B. would make quite an impressive, strong, intelligent First Lady!

If there's anybody in the country duller than Gray Davis, it's Warren Beatty.

Besides, the last thing California needs is another celebrity with no clue how to run a government.

Leave running state governments to experienced politicians, not to blathering amateurs.

32. Should Not Do It
I do not think he should run for governor. I think he should allow a serious Democratic candidate like Phil Anglides run against Arnold. I think the people of California have gotten tired of Arnold and will boot him for a better more skilled politican. However, if he runs against another actor he may just win in that people will perfer him to another actor. Arnold may have messed things up for actors running for governor in California.

It was compared, even by critics to some really good movies. Their sole attack was based upon the budget for the movie. The movie presented an accurate picture of the U.S. Government and the CIA. CIA and Reagan supporters hated it.
