Bush Administration member: "We're more than listless. We're sunk."

That Sinking Feeling

Publicly, the White House will tell you that it intends to push ahead with two of its big legislative issues throughout the fall: making permanent the first term tax cuts and Social Security reform.

Even privately, with the political and policy debacle that the White House created with its Clintonian response to Hurricane Katrina, policy and political types at 1600 Pennsylvania insist what's left of an agenda is still viable.

But at this stage of the game, barring some imaginative political moves that bear some resemblance to the Bush Administration circa 2002, Republicans on Capitol Hill and even some longtime Bush team members in various Cabinet level departments say this Administration is done for.

"You run down the list of things we thought we could accomplish and you have to wonder what we thought we were thinking," says a Bush Administration member who joined on in 2001. "You get the impression that we're more than listless. We're sunk."

2. "Clintonian response" would have been a competent FEMA
director evacuating and doing whatever else was necesarry and a President who would have led the rescue efforts. The ship has long since sailed for a "Clintonian response".

5. Oh Yeah, and the levees would have been in better shape, and
Kyoto and other environmental issues would have been taken seriously, and well, you see where this is going.

14. Exactly....
...Clinton would have responded immediately and efficiently. He wouldn't have taken all the credit or praise for a job well done. He would have praised Nagin and Blanco for their part...and mentioned every single person involved.

3. Yep. I didn't either, and it's poor journalism...
The only thing I can think of is the recent New Orleans speech, and how Chris Matthews and others said that Bush "sounded like a Democrat"...but they compared him to LBJ and FDR, not Clinton...so I have no idea what this author is talking about.

4. It's the usual conservative reflex
conservatives can't admit any mistake of their guy without somehow mentioning Clinton too.

Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 08:53 AM by emulatorloo
they are referring to the New Orleans speech. . .The Bush plan sounds all FDR, even though it is actually a "vast laboratory for right wing ideological experiments"

10. I think they mean the huge amount of gov't money Bush is proposing to
sink into reconstruction. I think. It's a badly written article elsewhere too.

11. I think this article is a hoax. I believe it was written as a pretend

piece. Pretend they are in trouble. They are moving full speed ahead with their agenda as far as I can see. Think about it...

They took a nationwide natural disaster and made it into a proft center for themselves. By not attending to the levee or by placing some explosives, they are accomplishing some of their disapora plans - scatter a base of democratic voters far and wide, don't allow them to come back in so that Chrisitan and Corporate interests can move in to convert, profit, and exploit and most of all, rid the city of some of the blacks (and gays, in their way of seeing things).

They have placed some of the displaced people into church camps that are hightly regulated and until I learn otherwise, where these people are going to get brainwashed and registered as Republicans, and be kept there for as long as possible. There was a report that they are buying all new supplies and food for these people (you can be assured it is from friendly christian and corporate friends) and the reason given for not accepting donations is that they don't want to create riots from an unfair distribution of the donations?

They are turning every situation of the disaster into a way of profiting including the cost of private soldiers and the non-use and misuse of free help and goods - all to make a profit.

They are now planning to maneuver a budget trick at the Pentagon - so that all benefits are separated from the toys. That means only one thing in their game book - privitization of military benefits.

They are still going to the moon.

They are still giving tax breaks to the rich.

They are still going with the pork.

They are still taking over the parks for the profit of a few.

They are still giving corporations the right to pollute at the corporations profit (thanks to stockholders, also.)

They are outsourcing at a greater rate - someone said that they have outsourced Katrina hotlines?

They are still allowing their corporations to not pay taxes, hide profits, and generally take U.S. money out of the country.

They are still not releasing any information related to their hundreds of scandals.

They will continue to get all reverend approved judges into every court in the nation.

THey will continue to bend over for the reverends and their sheep.

They are still planning to take over Paraguay, Bolivia, Venezuela, Cuba, Iran, Syria, and they still play with North Korea.

They still are tight with Sharon, Saudi Arabia royalty, the bin Ladens, Rev Moon, and Murdoch, the wealth possessed Blair and his Queen, banks of their choice and CEO's, their stockholders, the military and intelligence brass, and all the right wing religious reverends, plus hundreds of societies. Together with the Echelon countries, they expect to take the world.

We can be assured that there will be more to come. They will take the PNAC, Federalist Society, Halliburton, Carlyle, Bechtel, KBR, Mafia, British, Israel, and the holy reverends agenda and move full speed ahead.

Why? Because this is what they stole the elections for. They can't stop now. They are not ordinary humans. They have pomposity, arrogance, criminality, and determination (at any cost) for blood.

Yes, this article is a hoax.

13. Lowering the Bar
Bush* lives by "Lowered Expectations" If he can utter a coherent sentence he is a Genius...So now if he manages to accomplish anything it will be because he is such a GREAT Leader. Americans amaze me with how gullible they are.

Jesus. I'm not sure I can buy "the article is a hoax" theory--but that could be because I think Bush IS done for, he just doesn't know it yet. At all.

17. Are they admitting they are a Titanic?
Thought they were unsinkable after 9/11, and then Katrina gave 'em a swift boat kick in the arse?

That is what invincibility without responsibility gets.
