Bush at 40% approval - something to consider....

Okay, so Bush's number at 40 percent doesn't look great, but here is something to consider: Just say eighty percent of that forty percent loyally vote Rethuglican while say only thirty percent of the of the remaining percentage loyally vote Democratic.

I'm not a statistician but it seems to me that this is something to keep in mind when hoping for a Democratic majority.

Myself, I just don't see the Dems getting many good ideas out there or taking advantage of Bush's downward spiral and I think hoping for Bush to bottom out isn't the best guarantee for Democratic wins.

1. I'd say yes and no.

Yes, it is good that most people disapprove of Bush. The man's a raving human sacrifice, and he should have been tarred, feathered, and catapulted into the Potomac a long time ago.

No, it's not enough for Democrats to sit back and wallow in schadenfreude as Bush's poll numbers drop. We must get out the message that Democrats provide an alternative that's better for the vast majority of Americans, on every issue this nation faces

2. Right now, the generic congressional ballot has the Dems leading

the Repukes by 12 points. That's good news, not bad. The question is, can we hold a smiliar margin till November 2006?

Everybody is taking their eye off the ball in the joy of seeing Bush tumble lower and lower. Everybody can run as the 'Anti-Bush' in 2008. And the Repukes that run can say, "I hold your values, but I can pronounce 'nuclear'."

the polls saying 40 percent are current or non-fixed. People on BOTH sides of the aisle are catching on to *'s incompetence.

7. Who are the 60 percent?

I'm afraid a lot of Republican voters expressing disapproval of Bush in these polls are upset because he's "acting like a liberal." If they're pissed that Bush is "spending too many of our hard-earned tax dollars" to save New Orleans, does that mean they're going to vote for a Democrat? If they don't like Roberts because he's "too moderate," does that mean they will prefer the party that will uphold Roe v. Wade?

On the other hand, I agree with the other comments that anything that diminishes Bush's support and exposes Republican hypocrisy provides opportunities for Democrats. They do have to offer substantive alternatives and strong candidates to take advantage of the Republicans' weakened position.

12. I think the old adage

of "never get in the way of a great train wreck" is a good one, but I think it has been a losing strategy for us in the face of the media massaged Bush regime. Staying silent and letting these criminals hang themselves hasn't produced any great results for that very reason. I think there needs to be some controversy stirred up, words and actions that insist on coverage, a presence so indominatable it cannot be ignored by the press any longer. Our team needs to MAKE SOME NOISE and help push these turds down the crapper they are currently swirling around in!

13. I live in a red district in Illinois

and know several moderate Repubs who have turned on Chimpy. They consider him an absolute "joke", but they would still vote for him if he ran against Kerry today and they love Denny Hastert, our congressman. To make matters more confusing, they voted for and love Barack Obama even though they disagree with him politically. The complexities of American Politics can be very overwhelming.
