Here is what I really think
Honestly?? The only thing that I don't agree with that I wrote in that first post is the thing about the fetus. Being a mother, I can't help but feel that there needs to be some kind of logical, safe limit on abortion. But other than that...Personally, I think we should legalize drugs and prostitution. We waste way too much time and energy trying to stop something that is unstoppable when we should focus on education and eliminating the reasons people turn to drugs. You probably can't eliminate the reasons people turn to prostitutes, but you could make it safe. And you could tax it, which would be a great source of income. I think this country would be much better served by a Department of Peace than a Department of Defense. I am starting to think that maybe we should pull out of Iraq, I just threw that in there as an example of the kind of thing freepers wig out over. And I do happen to think that nobody needs to have a 45 billion dollar net worth if there is one person in this country going hungry at night.

I don't like pornography.

But it does not matter what I THINK or how I FEEL. It matters WHAT I CAN GET DONE. And by not offering any compromise, I am not going to get anything done. The reality is that right now, Republicans maintain the majority in the House, the Senate and the Presidency. Yeah, Bush is stinking it up royally. But that may not help us out as much as people seem to think. And the last election proved that by stepping on the right wing homophobic nerve works. It is WRONG, but it works. Unless we can figure out a way to nullify (there is a better word for this, but it is eluding me presently) the gut instinct reaction that a good bit of this country has to liberals, we are going to lose again. And then there will be NO chance of making any headway on some of these issues that we care about so deeply. And what I wrote in that thread is how many conservatives see liberals.

Oh, and I can't do the dripping sarcasm html thingy cause I don't know how, but I never suspected that ANYBODY would take that post at face value.

1. sarcasm -
: sarcasm :

Take the spaces away and you get :sarcasm:

I dont get what you are saying. That we should compromise more or less? My personal view is that we should not compromise at all. Let us leave no doubt that the Democratic party IS NOT Republican lite.

That's what I mean
So many people are so 'all or nothing'. Well, right now we pretty much have nothing and I think it sucks. Is it really 'Republican Lite' to have limits on abortion? Or to offer a civil union to homosexual couples that is legal, binding and allows for all the freedoms and rights of marriage?

To me, saying, "I don't believe in compromise" is being a dogmatic and inflexible as the other side. We bitch about them not giving an inch, but a lot of us are not willing to give anything, either.

:sarcasm: (just practicing)

2. you must learn to use the sarcasm thingie
it will save you years of stress off your life.

it's ":" + sarcasm + ":" altogether, no spaces, or you can just type "DISCLAIMER: (and then your text)"

There are some people here very quick to judge, and moreover, to share their judgement of you with you. Just give them a banana and a pat on the head and send them on their way.

3. I didn't see your other post...
but you do the sarcasm thingy by writing the word sarcasm in between two :'s.

See the "Smilies lookup table".

or you could just write <sarcasm>.

You can't necessarily assume people know you are being sarcastic from what you write without some kind of visual clues. They might just think you are an idiot. :)

5. First of all, read "Don't Think of an Elephant" by George Lakoff.
Second, if you really want to neutralize that gut instinct reaction, stop using the word "liberal." We're Progressives. Language matters.
