Our leaders owe it to us to go on record as to where they stand on the issue. The last thing we need is for them to pretend to do the right thing while working to guarantee his confirmation. That's dishonest on their part.
Reid is often very sneaky. In an attempt to avoid going on record, he'll use unanimous consent agreements to get things to floor. Instead of simply giving the Democrats a pass on Roberts, lets demand that there be no unanimous consent agreement. It only takes one person to say "no." Then they have to go on record. No unanimous consent agreement. No voice votes, either. Any one can call for a roll call. I have heard that without a unanimous consent, they can't get things to the floor at all. If that is true, they can kill the nomination. Any one Senator can put a hold on the nomination. 45 holds to require the requested information should be the minimum I would expect. The same thing is involved in a filibuster. A unanimous consent agreement means that no one objected or stood up for us. It only takes one to require them to go on record with a roll call. Reid too often votes one way on filibustering and another on the final vote. That way he plays both sides. We need to stop Roberts and we need to hold these guys accountable. They are our last defense against the Republicans and, if they don't do their job, we need to stand up ourselves and call for new Senate leadership.
