Dracula Novak warns Bush: Republican Elites are Turning Against You
Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 01:22 PM by npincus
http://www.townhall.com/columnists/robertnovak/rn20050922.shtml

Novak got an earful at a conference of Republican elites in Aspen last week:

ASPEN, Colo. -- For two full days, George W. Bush was bashed. He was taken to task on his handling of stem cell research, population control, the Iraq war and, especially, Hurricane Katrina. The critics were no left-wing bloggers. They were rich, mainly Republican and presumably Bush voters in the last two presidential elections.

The Bush-bashing occurred last weekend at the annual Aspen conference sponsored by the New York investment firm Forstmann Little & Co. Over 200 invited guests, mostly prestigious, arrived Thursday night (many by private aircraft) and stayed until Sunday morning for more than golf, hikes and gourmet meals. They faithfully attended the discussions presided over by PBS's Charlie Rose on such serious subjects as "global poverty and human rights" and "the 'new' world economy." The connecting link was hostility to President Bush.

<snip>

Longtime participants in Forstmann Little conferences (this was my first and, after this column, probably my last) told me they had not experienced such hostility against a Republican president at previous events. Yet, they were sure a majority of the guests had voted for Bush.

This analysis was reported to me over lunch by a financier who regularly attends these events. When he thanked me for my comments and said he shared my sentiments, I asked why he did not express them publicly at a session. He replied that he did not feel able to articulate what he felt. Critics of the president who are vocal and supporters who are reticent comprise a massive communications failure.

I'll drink to that!

1. These smarty-pants Republican elites...
I see nothing about * today that wasn't obvious the day he stole the presidency. He's a fuckup, always has been, always will be. Why did it take these "elites" so fucking long to wake up to the truth? Aren't they supposed to be smarter than everyone else, since they run everything?

3. The part that gives me no comfort is
...if an election was held TOMMOROW bush would still "win".

We no longer have free and honest elections in this country thanks to Diebold and company.

13. Agreed. I even had a nightmare recently
in which I was at a gathering of thousands of Democrats and it was before the 2008 Presidential election.

I put the question, what do we do if we believe another election has been stolen? I suggested the Ukraine example as a model.

But quickly the subject was changed, and 4 years after the 04 mock election, 8 years after 00 mock election, nothing had changed.

Was that frustrating?

:grr:

6. It was the average joe who figured all of this out before these losers.
Most of us are so tired from working our asses off we can barely hold our eyes open and yet we were the ones who saw the truth. How ironic.

14. Does he think that all that snitching will buy him brownie points?
Karl and junior are already done with him and he would be better off to try brown-nosing Fitzgerald lest he ends up in front of a firing squad.

16. We are all going to need these brothers and sisters
Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 08:45 PM by SpiralHawk
Spouting off about their sins of yesterday will not make it easy for them to step into the Great Hoop that will be necessary to contend with everything -- Way Beyond Bush -- that is coming down the pipe at us.

We face a Mighty Mighty Shitstorm -- climate, economy, fuel, Occult WhimWhamery, and Entrenched NeoCon Fascism (ENCF) to name a few obvious elements.

All willing hands on deck. The Hoop must be big. I feel there must be a place for everyone who wants to step into it and will try to do so out of conscience an act of free will.

For these reasons I applaud the awakening of these souls, and turn my hands back to work.
