Is Clinton Worried About Gore Running?

As Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) "ratchets up her attacks on President Bush, some Democrats think they smell an explanation: the threat of a 2008 Al Gore presidential bid that could come at her from the left on Iraq," the New York Post reports. "The former vice president is suddenly re-emerging as a vocal and visible Bush-basher -- he's slated to star at a Democratic National Committee fund-raiser for big donors in Washington next Tuesday."

But I would much prefer him to her. I think he's just speaking his mind, without politics or posturing. I think he's finally broken free of his parents aspirations for him, and is happily just letting loose.

This is just another urban legend invented by the melodramatic media.

HE wanted to be president. That was his decision not his parents'.
HE wanted to serve and HE trained himself for the job for 30 years.
That had nothing to do with what his parents wanted but with his own ambitions. When he didn't want to do anything with politics he didn't do anything with politics. And when he wanted to run for office he decided to run for office independently from what his parents wanted. He was a grown man, for goodness sake. Don't you think he could make decidions based on his own objectives?

Gore was noone's puppet. Not Clinton's and not his father's. He has been a loner ever since he was a teenager.

Registered Democrats do not represent the majority of the voting public. Nor do registered Reps.
You can win a prez election is you have enough votes from your party AND enough swing votes. (Yes there are indeed swing voters)

But when it comes to the Dem base they could not unite behind Gore in 2000. Only 86% of Dems supported him leading up the convention while 97% of Reps supported Bush.
The left went for Nader or stayed at home and many moderate Dems went for Bush because of Monica and Clinton-fatigue or because Bush was so cute or simply because they got bored by 8 years of Dem rule in the White House and wanted change for the sake of change (never underestimate that factor. Hillary is counting on just that in 2008.)

If the Dems had been united in 2000 we wouldn't talk about Bush now.

17. Notwithstanding the end-result

Gore kicked ass in 2000. I think he did really well. Face it, the third party advocates will NEVER be united with the rank and file Democratic Party. And, with the status quo, I can't say I blame them. But Al Gore was pretty progressive, not as much as Paul Wellstone, but I think he did a damn good job in 2000.

And, again, I would quit my job and work for his campaign full time gratis should he choose to run again. I think it would be brilliant. I think the righteous reckoning for the 2000 nightmare would benefit him tremendously.

We all have our own special interests, but we need to unite in order to win elections. Otherwise, we won't win them. We'll just be a club.

I know people want everyone united behind a Democratic standard-bearer early.

The problem with that is, so many people (no matter who they happen to support) want everyone else to abandon other preferred candidates and unite behind THEIR chosen favorite!

After 8 years of Chimpy McCokespoon and all the ravages he is doing to the entire planet, an Al Gore election would be like a majestic breath of fresh air.

Considering every environmental law is being gutted, the ESA is on the guillotine as we speak, public land is being pissed away for a song, clean air and water are ideas for utopian fools, global warming is junk, science is being manipulated, the public is not being informed, simply living has become a bigger challenge with this cretin in the White House…

I’d probably weep like a baby should Al Gore get elected. He’s the perfect man to follow up this vagabond currently squatting in the White House.

Gore is really the ANTI-Bush in so many ways. If we could get one of those whack jobs (Gingrich for instance) nominated for the Repuke Party then Gore would walk in barring voting machine shenanigans.
