can anyone explain this? "Bush Waives Saudi Trafficking Sanctions"

(09-21) 18:40 PDT WASHINGTON, (AP) --

President Bush decided Wednesday to waive any financial sanctions on Saudi Arabia, Washington's closest Arab ally in the war on terrorism, for failing to do enough to stop the modern-day slave trade in prostitutes, child sex workers and forced laborers.

In June, the State Department listed 14 countries as failing to adequately address trafficking problems, subjecting them all to possible sanctions if they did not crack down.

Of those 14, Bush concluded that Bolivia, Jamaica, Qatar, Sudan, Togo and the United Arab Emirates had made enough improvements to avoid any cut in U.S. aid or, in the case of countries that get no American financial assistance, the barring of their officials from cultural and educational events, said Darla Jordan, a State Department spokeswoman.

Cambodia and Venezuela were not considered to have made similar adequate improvements. But Bush cleared them nonetheless to receive limited assistance, for such things as combating trafficking. In the case of Venezuela — which has had a tense relationship with the United States under the leadership of President Hugo Chavez, one of Latin America's most outspoken critics of U.S. foreign policy — Bush also allowed funding for strengthening the political party system and supporting electoral observation.

In addition to Saudi Arabia, Ecuador and Kuwait — another U.S. ally in the Middle East — were given a complete pass on any sanctions, Jordan said. Despite periodic differences, oil-rich Saudi Arabia and the United States have a tight alliance built on economic and military cooperation.

That left Myanmar, Cuba and North Korea as the only nations in the list of 14 barred completely from receiving certain kinds of foreign aid. The act does not include cutting off trade assistance or humanitarian aid, Jordan said.

The White House statement offered no explanation of why countries were regarded differently. Jordan also could not provide one.

As many as 800,000 people are bought and sold across national borders annually or lured to other countries with false promises of work or other benefits, according to the State Department. Most are women and children.

8. Oil AND Drugs
In short, money. If you could make a profit stopping trafficking in human misery you can rest assured the BFEE would be hip deep in it. As it is the two big business interests of the BFEE, oil and drugs, will always trump human compassion.

17. bingo
As Lenin said: "the capitalist will sell you the rope with which you hang him".

Even though Saudi Arabia is the greatest nest of terrorists that has ever plagued mankind, and even though their interests are at odds with our pro-Israeli policies, we will salaam to them for their oil and chorus with fealty to the long standing Bush family love of power.

Catch ya on the flip side.

9. Friends of the Bushes get a pass on anything
There are no limits.

It's not just about the oil. It's about the Bush "omerta." If it was only about oil, they would have given a pass to Venezuela as well.

This is about Bush and his mafia-style politics. Loyalty to the Crawford Sopranos pays back.

6. Sure. Slavery, in and of itself, is not a "bad" thing. The thing that
makes it bad is who is doing it. If one of the Emperor's cronies is running slaves, killing children, raping grandmothers - it's no big deal because "they're good people". But if someone on the bad-list is raising taxes on the stinking rich in their own country, then they are the "enemies of God" and killing all of their seed is what all "good" Amerikans should pray for...

10. It must be so that the FBI can catch the "real" pornographers

"Jesus On a Trailor Hitch"!!! If this is not a classic example of this administration paying lip service to the American Taliban with their war on porn, while at the same time clearing the way for their friends in Saudi Arabia to rape young children...I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS!!

How long will it take for the "religious right" to wake up in this country and realize they're getting fucked in the ass without even the common courtesy of a "reach-around".

and...as long as they put their little "voter information pamphlets" in the pews of their mega-churches, and vote for these fucker en masse, the rest of us get screwed as well.

21. Thanks
I have got to save that picture to show to my "former Rush brainwashed" brother.

I can't look at that without thinking how pissed Jesus must be. Making him breath the fumes of that behemoth SUV, dragging him around like beer cans at a redneck wedding, and not even having the common decency to to put a bug deflector by his beard.

I think, if their is a God, he will have a "unique" eternal punishment for the "ass-pickle" that was dragging his son around like a 5TH Wheel.

15. The House of Bush and the House of Saud have interlocking directorships.
Always have. Bush would never do anything to offend the House of Saud. He might not even have the authority to do so.

16. Two words
"Franklin cover-up"

These guys almost got caught hip-deep in human trafficking before. Ten years ago, I would have said it was CT, but the last 5 years have made CTers seem like the only sane ones.

Also, Delay and Neil Bush have ties in one way or another to child prostitutes in Southern Asia. This stuff is just too creepy to consider for long.

And I hope it is all bullshit, because if it is true, we are underestimating the evil we are up against.
