BushCo, PNAC know what hell they hath wrought. It is by design.
Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 07:56 PM by Atman
I've been searching and Googling; my hd crashed a few weeks ago and I lost literally several hundred bookmarks, and the source I need is among them. BUT...allow me to offer the thesis I read, from memory, as best I can.

====

All of us (me included) who keep calling BushCo incompetent, are completely missing the boat. People do not get this much power through incompetence. They plan. And BushCo/PNAC are planning nothing short of complete societal change. Evolution. De-evolution. Regression, whatever you want to call it. They are literally forcing a great change on a society which they feel has gone totally awry.

This is where the subject of my post gets heavy; the part I have been looking for was about how Bush and Co know it will hurt. They know it will be painful. But, in their eyes (and they are actually correct, to a large degree), no great societal change is painless. To achieve their goals of a New Society, many will suffer. Many will die. Many will have their lives altered in unimaginable ways. Thus is the lesson of history. The plague, the industrial revolution, on and on...history is replete with such painful changes leaving millions behind to start anew.

BushCo is aware of it. They don't apologize for it. They embrace it. They just don't talk about it openly. This is why Bush is always so "resolute." It isn't stubbornness, it is just facing down their new reality. And their reality doesn't conveniently fit into our 4-year election cycle. So, they trudge ever onward, ignoring critics who they feel don't understand. Ignoring the citizens who are too comfortable with the old society just the way it is. Ignoring those who claim the constitution is being eviscerated.

OF COURSE the constitution is being eviscerated. It is in the way, and there is no way, constitutionally, to simply suspend it. So, they ignore the constitution in pursuit of their larger vision, damned those ignorati who don't share their dream. They just don't understand. This will be a long, painful period in America's history, but it is unavoidable if they are to correct the perceived ills of the Great Society gone wrong.

--

That, my DU friends, is what we're up against. This won't be won back in 2006...they'll simply steal the elections again and tell us the polls were wrong. Or they'll run fake democrats who'll carry out the PNAC mission after taking office. They'll buy election machine companies.

And most importantly, and perhaps most obvious to all of us, they'll drain every last penny from the treasury for themselves...after all, this will be a long, painful period for America.

Except for those who have the financial wherewithal to ride it out behind their compound walls for a few years. They'll emerge on top.

Pain is for the underlings. Suckers.

2. Ya think?
You mean they have no regard for laws, no regard for Civil Liberties, human life, real values??

We know, we know.

3. My point is, we must stop believing we can force them to change back
through "elections" and writing our Congressmen. THEY DON'T CARE WHAT WE THINK. So, we really should be looking at this from a different angle. To stop thinking "normal" measures will effect the change we want. They're playing for keeps; they're as evil as any character in any James Bond movie you've ever seen, and they have the resources to pull it off.

Meanwhile, we write Pat Leahy and whine that he voted for a Supreme Court justice who helped install the illegitimate president. If we don't wake up and realize how serious this is, it will be way too late before we know what hit us.

5. We already do know what hit us. (Sorry.)

And they are falling (not fast enough, I admit, but still...).

Listen, the fact of the matter is, this illegitimate regime is "falling" far more quicker than the legit Nixon regime did.

So, all the "work" done up to this day has not been done in vain.

And there's a lot more "work" to do. This weekend rally sure won't be the last one, even if nothing will change "magically" the day after...

Nixon "failed" but it took years and years in protests and many ugly and hard "fights" so the PNAC will fail, and it will take years (5 already) of "work" but their regime will fall nonetheless.

Because it goes AGAINST THE WILL OF MORE AND MORE PEOPLE.

Hey, King George failed... Remember?

Edit: 'missed' a 't' and a 'did'

people in America who are against this evil.

12. I think so too

Bush is very involved I think. I highly believe he was involved in outing Valerie Plame/Wilson as well. In 2003 he was advised not to use the Niger excuse but he did it anyways. He knows everything damn well. I believe this whole stupid act he has it's just that. An act. He was talking about invading Iraq in 1999 when he was running! Bush definitley knows everything and is involved in everything. Rove just helps with strategizing some things. There was a great video on Current TV that gives me hope. I forgot the name of it but it's where people are talking about how we will prevail because we have history on our side. MLK, JFK, Robert Kennedy, etc. If the 1971 Vietnam protestors can get through it so can our time!

8. Good Morning DU!
I'm kicking my own rant.

I think it's important that we realize we need to stop thinking in terms of the reality we know. BushCo's "new reality" is a long-term plan, and we best figure out how a new reality of our own, or we might as well slink off into oblivion now.

14. So in a Constructive vein, what concrete direction would you suggest?
It's kinda ironic that a lot of organizing tactics the right (particularly Christian right) have used over the last 20 years (in particularl) they learned a lot from the 60's left and expanded on them. Now we have to break down what they've done that works (other than big-buck bribery) and expand on THAT.

Needless to say, there are quite a few folk on here who agree with your points....just fleshing out concrete strategies (i.e. do you believe economic boycotts are also useless at this point?) -- may help, although how serious can things get on public boards?

15. I would suggest fasting and even rationing
And I would most-definitely restrict the foods that could be purchased with government aid, and provide a cook-book to those who want one.
