I just read where Jimmy Carter said, as Chair of the bi-partisan Committee he's heading up (you know, the one with Baker as co-chair...), that Al Gore actually won the 2000 election, and that the Supreme Court had no right to declare Bush President, because their action was largely "partisan". See thread here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2112368I ask you... look at that picture; consider the death and destruction that "President" has wrought; NOW... consider what this country would be TODAY if all the votes had been counted, and the President the people actually ELECTED -- Al Gore -- had actually been POTUS these last 5 years. Think about it. I submit, this would be a totally different WORLD... and a happier, safer, more secure country.
That's all I have to say. In that light, that picture is not only silly, but scary, and BIBLICAL. The Bible said:
"... behold, a pale horse, and its rider's name was death, and hell followed him." This man is OUR pale rider...
Now we find out, he is a DICTATOR. Installed by a junta of Justices installed by (largely) previous Republican administrations. During a week where we witnessed the "rubber-stamp" approval of ANOTHER REPUBLICAN SUPREME COURT JUSTICE, young enough to serve on the court for 40-45 more years (if he stays healthy), we may never see a duly-elected President again in HIS lifetime.
And, yet again, we have a number of Democratic Party electeds who were accomplices to his ram-rodding through the approval process. When are we going to start electing Democrats who are up for the fight? Because like it or not... we, as a Party, and as a people, are in the fight for our very existence.
When are we going to start demanding no more vote-counting by private firms chosen by the Republicans? And, while we're at it: Paper ballots and hand counting, or at least a verifiable paper trail would be ideal!
We cannot let this continue.
