What do Ceausescu, Hitler and Bush have in common? OK, sorry. But what else do they have in common?

It seemed like a good idea at the time: a light-hearted advertising campaign to persuade Romanians to adopt a stray dog, using pictures of three well-known 'historical figures’ with their pets.

Posters across the capital showed Adolf Hitler, Nicolae Ceausescu — Romania’s former dictator — and GeorgeW Bush, over the slogan: 'A dog loves you just the way you are.’

But the American Embassy did not find the association of Mr Bush with two hated dictators so amusing and, hours after The Sunday Telegraph sought advertising agency McCann Ericsson’s reaction to the campaign, company workers had ripped the posters down.

Romania has been plagued by packs of dogs since President Ceausescu, an animal lover whose security service tortured and murdered thousands, banned the killing of strays. Hitler also could not abide cruelty to animals.

Shouldn't the text say: the association of Mr Bush with two other hated dictators.........

6. Dog lovers: Ceaucescu's, Hitler's, and Bush's ONLY redeeming quality!

Question is, what's their attitude towards cats? Dogs are very easy to be kind to; most dogs are obedient to the point of servility. Cats, on the other hand, refuse to be a slave to anyone, especially a human.

Is that Ceaucescu is a communist. The other two dog lovers are fascists. Perhaps they should have gone with three fascists and it would have gone better.

they all are against abortion- Hitler and Ceausesco outlawed abortion and Ceausesco made it mandatory that all childbearing women have four or five? children. That's why the burdgeoning orphan population in Romania. Of course, they all did that because they cherished human life (major sarcasm).

They were all against abortion. Hitler of course ended up burned to a crisp in his bunker after putting a gun in his mouth and pulling the trigger. Ceacescu and his hated wife were lined up against a wall and shot. One of the first acts of the free Romanian government was to legalize abortion again.

if you read some of the crap coming from the likes of G. Gordon Liddy and others from the right, there so afraid of those "darkies" getting the upper edge of the lilly whites, that it's just plain scaring them. By the way I'm a lilly white, don't even tan, but you know about natural selection, and if the ozone layer is being depleted those "darkies" have a much better chance of survival than some of us. Hitler also needed to push the "Aryan race" agenda. Remember those baby farms in places like Poland, forcing then to have "Aryan" babies for the Third Reich?
