Question: What is Al Gore's plan for ending the war in Iraq?
I know he opposed the war in 2002 and opposes the war now. I want to know his position now on ending the war. What is his plan to get out of Iraq? If he has presented no plan, has he commented on the plans of others?

Please provide links.

Thank you.

Note: I did search Google first.

4. Bush has no plan
Duh.

But that's not the question. All of a sudden, there are a dozen or so threads pushing a 2008 comeback for Gore. Since we know where Clark, Clinton, Biden, Bayh, Kerry and Feingold stand, is it unreasonable to ask what Gore has had to say about what we do now?

He was against the invasion all along, and that's fine. So were Clark and Dean. Where does he stand now? And if he hasn't said, why not?

3. Last I checked, Al wasn't running for anything.
Why would he have an exit strategy?

6. That's true
But DU is apparently running him for 2008, whether he wants to run or not, as an anti-war candidate. Since the burning question now is how to end the war, not whether to start it, I would like to hear from his supporters what Al Gore's thoughts are on this most important issue. Surely, he must be saying something?

14. Daily Kos does too. It isn't just DU.
I know he is giving a speech tomorrow to a DNC fundraiser.

I don't know the answer to your specific question.

9. That gives him a pass on speaking out?
What America does in Iraq (and Iran, Syria, etc etc etc), how we Democrats pressure Bush into doing something, or conversely, how we exploit the situation when Bush does nothing, or keep the Repubs from exploiting what he does or doesn't do--these are some of the most critical issues of the next three years. Whether we win back Congress or not in '06 will largely revolve around these questions.

Either Gore is speaking out as a Democrat or he isn't. Which is it?

7. I don't know and Gore probably won't answer that question until he
starts planning to run for Prez. He's made no official committments to running for Prez, but when he does, I'm sure he will have an outline of a response to the Iraq quagmire. I don't expect him to have a detailed plan because he does not have access to classified documents on Iraq, but I would expect that he would outline a response and those responses could change depending on classified information. It's really the approach Gore will take on Iraq and on Islamic fundamentalism & terrorism that is the key. Check out his Feb. 12, 2002 speech to the council of Foreign Relations for a clue as to how Gore thinks on this topic Speech Transcript: A Commentary on the War Against Terror: Our Larger Tasks http://www.algore-08.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=79&Itemid=84

I'm really looking for what he is saying today. But I guess I will have to wait to hear.

8. Gore didn't get us into Iraq--it is not yet his job to get us out.
If he'd been allowed to take the office he won in 2000, we would not be there. But here are a bunch of his speeches. Check them out:

11. In those speeches
Does he address getting out of Iraq and the best way to do it? What is his thinking? I know what he thought about getting into the war. I want to know what he thinks about getting out of it.

12. IF Gore has decided...
he really does WANT to be President...then it's never too early to start planning how you will handle any situation, or prepare a plan to show you have what it takes to get out of this or any war, if that is what you might inherit as a WH resident...(with * in office, it's just liable to happen)
IMO I never got the impression that Gore wanted to be President in 2000..and even though he's to be commended for rescuing people from the aftermath of Katrina, that alone does not a president make..Perhaps Gore is one of the people who work better without the constraints or restrictions of needing approval to act...he rescued these people as a private citizen, he saw a need, and he acted...you can't do that when you're president, too many people might disagree or find fault....(and I agree his actions, as a private citizen, did show up the idiot, currently in the WH)
Let him keep showing what he's made of...then he can decide whether he REALLY wants it, bad enough, and we can decide whether he warrants our devotion, time and money...

15. I'm not so sure he was against it
Here's what he said in 2000: You need honest, moral and courageous people like Kucinich, Lee, Conyers, etc.. to speak out and let the DLC types twist in the wind until they get on board.

US Vice-President Al Gore has told Iraqi opposition politicians that the United States remains committed to the overthrow of President Saddam Hussein.

There can be no peace for the Middle East so long as Saddam is in a position to brutalise his people and threaten his neighbours

Meeting a delegation from the Iraqi National Congress (INC), he also reiterated the administration's view that the Iraqi leader should be tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
